Hier het bericht. Is eigenlijk zelfde als wat de ceo van nokia zei tijdens aandeelhoudersvergadering. Weet niet hoe oud het stuk exact is, maar het is meer onderdeel van het spel denk ik (zie onderstreept)

    www.eurocomms.com/features/analysis/1...

He does say that the quality of the bids is better than expected, but adds: “Let’s give it more time… We may not end up selling it if we don’t get the right value.”

This would appear to be more sales patter (salespraatje) than a realistic strategy. Here is likely to be sold because it lacks synergies with the rest of the company.

To ram the point home, Suri says: “We’re doing [the strategic review] because the company will become much more networks focused. We’ve made that call.”

    It doesn't make sense...

    circa may 2014 berlin the...

It looks like Uber's robotics lab is now up and running -- the Pittsburgh Business Times has just spotted one of its test cars marked "Uber Advanced Technologies Center" driving around the city. If you recall, the ridesharing company teamed up with Carnegie Mellon scientists in 2014 reportedly to develop self-driving taxis, among other technologies, in the new lab. Uber believes that operating driverless vehicles will allow it to offer cheaper, more competitive rates. Its CEO, Travis Kalanick, once even said that "the cost of taking an Uber anywhere becomes cheaper than owning a vehicle," when you remove drivers from the picture.

While the test car the publication spotted could very well be a prototype of the company's self-driving car, an Uber spokesperson was quick to squash that notion. She told the PIttsburgh Business Times that it's merely part of "early research effort regarding mapping, safety and autonomy systems." Hey, at least that hints that Uber has begun developing autonomous car tech, so keep your eyes peeled if you live in the city.

Laatste alinea Bloomberg is wel goed:

HERE supplies maps data for about 80 percent of cars with in-dash navigation systems in North America and Europe. Its competitors are TomTom NV, the Dutch maker of navigation software and devices, and Google Inc.

Dat zet veel mensen die dit nog niet volgen toch aan het denken dit weekend....

Het gaat snel bij Uber :-)

Remember how Uber forged a partnership with Carnegie Mellon University to get its ambitions for self-driving cars off the ground? It turns out this deal wasn't exactly balanced. The Verge understands that Uber poached much of the autonomous vehicle team from Carnegie Mellon's robotics lab, including top staff who'd been there for more than a decade. There's a transition period that keeps these researchers around to finish existing work, but the rash of departures is reportedly creating a vacuum at the school -- and it's not clear if those soon-to-depart people are working on academic projects or Uber technology.

Neither party is directly commenting on this sudden shift. However, they've so far been optimistic about what the partnership will mean. CMU's director has argued that the "slightly negative" loss of employees would be worth it as the robotics industry "matured." Uber, meanwhile, just confirmed that it's leasing a giant workspace in Pittsburgh to help its new recruits get their self-driving vehicle efforts off the ground toward the end of the year. The hiring campaign may have set back the university's studies, but it's clear that there's no turning back.

Update: TechCrunch caught word of the poaching efforts earlier in the year, though it wasn't clear at the time what the culture was like or that Uber was going to lease a larger facility for its autonomous car team.
