    Tim Cook: ‘Apple Watch gaat je autosleutel vervangen’

    Met een Apple Special Event op 9 maart en verkoopstart van de Apple Watch in april, begint het media-offensief van Apple los te barsen. CEO Tim Cook brengt verrassings­bezoekjes aan Apple Stores wereldwijd en doet daar interessante uitspraken.

    Tijdens een bezoek aan de Covent Garden Apple Store in Londen hintte Tim Cook naar een samenwerking tussen autofabrikanten en Apple. Volgens de CEO kan de Apple Watch straks onder andere gebruikt worden om je auto te ontgrendelen en starten.

    Volgens Cook wordt de Apple Watch net als de iPhone: gebruikers kopen de smartwatch omdat het lezen van notificaties om je pols handig is, maar zullen al snel andere functies ontdekken. De CEO is er van overtuigd dat de Apple Watch daarom een schot in de roos zal zijn.

    Tijdens de introductie van de Apple Watch werd al een app op het horloge getoond die samenwerkt met de BMW i-serie. Ook fabrikant Viper heeft al aangekondigd een smart start-app voor de Apple Watch te gaan maken.

    Het is niet de eerste keer dat Tim Cook kleine beetjes nieuwe informatie over de Apple Watch lekt. Eerder deze week vertelde de Apple-CEO tijdens een bezoek aan een Apple Store in Duitsland nog dat Apple’s smartwatch gewoon showerproof is.

    Tijdens het Apple-evenement van maandag 9 maart horen we ongetwijfeld meer over de functies van de Apple Watch en welke samenwerkingen Apple heeft gesloten.

    According to multiple industry contacts, but with a special contribution from Voyomotive, here is a summary of the requirements for a smartwatch/carkey replacement:

    Connecting to cars will be different than controlling a car. Apple will need an OEM’s cooperation to control this functionality and most likely the car will need to be using CarPlay.
    Apple will need to add hardware to the car and the vehicle will have to be designed around this hardware. Lead times are a consideration to implementation and market penetration.
    Requirements include: Bluetooth communication with the vehicle “off;” however, it has to be very low power. System must be able to wake up the vehicle, support encryption and security. All of these are doable but are considerations to implement the system.
    In the case of multiple users, Apple will need to differentiate permissions between different levels of users and Apple has traditionally NOT supported this type of functionality. For example, having different types of permissions for people who can enter the car vs people who can drive the car. (Once you are on an IPad – you have total access to everything.)
    To reach the aftermarket and/or non-CarPlay vehicles, the Apple Watch will require additional hardware be added to a non-supported car to authenticate access and engine start. One model requires a custom install as used by ZipCar and other car sharing companies or a modular, plug and play system like Voyo.

    AMSTERDAM (Dow Jones)--Maandag kondigde TomTom (TOM2.AE) een nieuwe deal aan met SsangYong Motor Company voor de levering van kaarten en navigatiesoftware en tekende een zevenjarige deal met Kia. Daar kwamen vandaag twee nieuwe overeenkomsten bij: met Fiat Chrysler en Hyundai. Daarmee is sprake van een sterk momentum voor de tak Automotive, zegt Rabobank. De sterke orderinstroom zal volgens analist Hans Slob leiden tot een sterke dubbelcijferige omzetgroei voor de divisie in 2016 (+14%) en 2017 (+13%). Het advies luidt buy met een koersdoel van EUR8. Dinsdag omstreeks 9.15 uur noteert het aandeel 2,7% hoger op EUR7,82, terwijl de Midkap met 0,3% stijgt. (BTZ)

    SA’s TomTom & National Small Business Chamber Partner To Put Small Business In The Map

    TomTom Africa and the National Small Business Chamber (NSBC) have partnered to ensure that about 75 000 members will have location services, this includes an Address Validation Tool and “Put Your Business On The Map”.

    Through this initiative Small businesses, which contribute largely to the economic growth of South Africa, will have a greater visibility.

    “This will assist customers in finding these businesses via a business locator on the TomTom App or any of the TomTom portable navigation devices (PND’s)”, commented TomTom Africa General Manager, Etienne Louw.

    Mike Anderson, NSBC Founder and CEO added: “TomTom plays a pivotal role in enhancing the visibility of small businesses throughout South Africa. Through their powerful business geo-locator, small businesses can now help their customers and potential customers find them quickly and easily. The NSBC in partnership with TomTom has a vision to ‘put every small business on the map”.

    Founded by NSBC and Nedbank, the first Friday in Spring every year has been declared ‘Small Business Friday’ which encourages all South African’s to interact with and support small business on a daily basis and particularly every Friday.

    With support from the community, small business will grow and sustain people through job creation. At the same time harvesting the entrepreneurial spirit and reducing unemployment.

    The My Business Expo at Gallagher Convention Centre will be hosting small businesses through pertinent seminars such as the Small Business Start-up Zone and various start-up Expo Exhibitors.
