    We heard about the brand new Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite platform that is powering systems in this AI revolution with its high performance CPU cores and 45 TOPS NPU, shipping in June, and we also expect to see the AMD Strix Point and Intel Lunar Lake platforms to offer similar Copilot+ PC ready silicon later in 2024. But when it comes to AI, Microsoft’s messaging was clear: they see the future being a lower power, high performance (and thus high efficiency) NPU, not a CPU or GPU. Where does that leave Nvidia today?

    Intel battles AMD with new data center chips

    TAIPEI/SAN FRANCISCO, June 4 (Reuters) - Intel launched its next generation Xeon server processors on Tuesday in a bid to regain data center market share, and revealed that its Gaudi 3 artificial intelligence accelerator chips would be priced much lower than its rivals' products.
    The sixth generation Xeon chips are crucial for Intel (INTC.O), opens new tab, which has been steadily losing data center market share to Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) (AMD.O), opens new tab.
    Intel's share of the data center market for x86 chips has declined 5.6 percentage points over the past year to 76.4%, with AMD now holding 23.6%, according to data from Mercury Research.

    Volgens de maker is een cluster van 8192 Gaudi 3-accelerators 40 procent sneller bij het trainen van een GPT3-175B-model dan een vergelijkbaar cluster van Nvidia H100's. Bij 64 accelerators en het Llama2-70B-model zou Intels voordeel 15 procent zijn. Inferencing zou, afhankelijk van de gekozen parameters en het gebruikte AI-model, gemiddeld twee keer zo snel moeten gaan op Gaudi 3.

    Intel wil met zijn nieuwe Gaudi 3-accelerators de concurrentie aangaan met de Nvidia H100, op dit moment de krachtigste kaart voor het trainen van AI-modellen.

    Volgens Intel kan het een kit bestaande uit acht kaarten en een baseboard verkopen voor twee derde van wat een Nvidia vraagt.

    Intel wil de concurrentie met Nvidia H100 aangaan met Gaudi 3-accelerators
