Nvidia sees Blackwell outperforming prior guidance, says Citi

    TheFly

Citi says that during its 2025 CES special address, Nvidia (NVDA) further laid out its hybrid artificial intelligence platform, which will use the company’s graphics processing units in the cloud to run the largest language models. The firm maintains a Buy rating on the shares with a $175 price target after meeting with management at CES. Management expects Blackwell will likely outperform the prior guidance of a couple of billions of dollars, the analyst tells investors in a research note. Citi says Nvidia also confirmed Hopper and Blackwell combined will grow in the January quarter and believes the growth is sustainable. Management mentioned four major trends, including the company benefiting from what is likely the tail-end of the $2 trillion traditional compute market as it believes most workloads will eventually be accelerated, the firm notes. It points out Nvidia believes quantum computing is good at small data problems such as cryptography, and not necessarily large data problems AI is currently addressing. Management believes quantum computing will start to be truly helpful in 15-30 years, Citi adds.

Biden to Further Limit Nvidia AI Chip Exports in Final Push

"(Bloomberg) -- President Joe Biden’s administration plans one additional round of restrictions on the export of artificial intelligence chips from the likes of Nvidia Corp. just days before leaving office, a final push in his effort to keep advanced technologies out of the hands of China and Russia.

The US wants to curb the sale of AI chips used in data centers on both a country and company basis, with the goal of concentrating AI development in friendly nations and getting businesses around the world to align with American standards, according to people familiar with the matter.

The result would be an expansion of semiconductor caps to most of the world — an attempt to control the spread of AI technology at a time of soaring demand. The regulations, which could be issued as soon as Friday, would create three tiers of chip trade restrictions, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the discussions are private.

At the top level, a small number of US allies would maintain essentially unmitigated access to American chips. A group of adversaries, meanwhile, would be effectively blocked from importing the semiconductors. And the vast majority of the world would face limits on the total computing power that can go to one country.

Countries in the last group would be able to bypass their national limits — and get their own, significantly higher caps — by agreeing to a set of US government security requirements and human rights standards, one of the people said. That type of designation — called a validated end user, or VEU — aims to create a set of trusted entities that develop and deploy AI in secure environments around the world.

Shares of Nvidia, the leading maker of AI chips, dipped more than 1% in late trading after Bloomberg reported on the plan. They had been up 4.3% this year through the close, following stratospheric gains in 2023 and 2024 that turned the company into the world’s most valuable chipmaker.

Nvidia objected to the proposal in a statement. “A last-minute rule restricting exports to most of the world would be a major shift in policy that would not reduce the risk of misuse but would threaten economic growth and US leadership,” Nvidia said.

Every data center and business is already incorporating AI through what the company calls accelerating computing, Nvidia said. “The worldwide interest in accelerated computing for everyday applications is a tremendous opportunity for the US to cultivate, promoting the economy and adding US jobs,” the chipmaker said

The measures build on years of curbs that already limited the ability of American chipmakers like Nvidia and Advanced Micro Devices Inc. to sell advanced processors in China and Russia. The US also has sought to prevent adversary nations from accessing cutting-edge US technology through intermediaries in places like the Middle East and Southeast Asia. Data centers are strategically crucial because companies use them to develop and run AI models, sometimes across national borders.

A representative of the White House’s National Security Council declined to comment. The Commerce Department’s Bureau of Industry and Security, which is in charge of chip export controls, didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment."

Nvidia Is Poised to Conquer Personal Computing Next. Chip Makers Should Be Nervous.

Nvidia Inside. Hi everyone. It was a volatile week for Nvidia shareholders.

Going into CES, the annual tech trade show, some analysts on Wall Street raised expectations that CEO Jensen Huang would unveil new details about Nvidia’s next-generation of AI data center processors during his Monday evening keynote address. The speculation sparked a rally in Nvidia shares heading into the event. When no new details emerged Monday night, the stock fell 6% on Tuesday.

I found the rumors silly to begin with. Nvidia traditionally reveals information on its data center products during its annual GTC developer conference in March. Somehow Wall Street also seemed to forget that CES originally stood for the CONSUMER Electronics Show.

To that effect, Huang did announce Nvidia’s new line of RTX 50 Series gaming graphics cards based on the company’s Blackwell chip architecture. They looked impressive, especially the latest version of Nvidia’s DLSS, or Deep Learning Super Sampling, an AI graphics rendering technology, which runs on the new cards and boosts frame rates for gamers. The executive also announced Project Digits, which is effectively a desktop computer that includes a new GB10 Grace Blackwell Superchip with an Nvidia-designed Arm-based CPU and GPU that can deliver up to one petaflop of AI performance.

Digits, the first desktop computer made by Nvidia in its history, will be available in May, starting at $3,000. “Placing an AI supercomputer on the desks of every data scientist, AI researcher, and student empowers them to engage and shape the age of AI,” Huang said.

At first blush, given the expensive price point, the computer seems like a niche-oriented product for high-end engineers that won’t sell in volume.

Nvidia, meanwhile, isn’t ready yet to embrace the desktop moniker. “Project Digits is an AI appliance that runs Linux and is intended for developers,” a spokesperson told me.

But this is a small computing appliance that sits on a desk. It’s fair to call it a desktop computer.

Ultimately, I think Digits will turn out to be the most consequential announcement at this year’s CES. The computer uses a scaled-down version of Nvidia’s Grace AI server CPU technology. It’s packaged in a Mac Mini-sized form factor with the help of Taiwan-based MediaTek, which Huang commended for its expertise in building low-power chips. MediaTek is Qualcomm’s biggest rival for making mobile processors for smartphones.

Nvidia’s Strategic Advancements in AI and Automotive Sectors Drive Buy Rating
    Carrie Williams

    Jan 09, 2025, 08:35 AM

Analyst Yik Ban Chong from Phillip Securities maintained a Buy rating on Nvidia (NVDA – Research Report) and keeping the price target at $160.00.

Yik Ban Chong has given his Buy rating due to a combination of factors that highlight Nvidia’s strategic advancements and growth potential in the AI and automotive sectors. Nvidia’s recent unveiling of the NVIDIA DRIVE Thor at CES2025, which is a high-performance AI chip for autonomous vehicles, marks a significant technological advancement. This chip is expected to drive growth in Nvidia’s automotive segment, with revenue projected to increase nearly fivefold from FY24 to FY26, partly due to partnerships like the one announced with Toyota to incorporate Nvidia’s systems-on-a-chip technology into future vehicles.
Furthermore, Nvidia’s release of the GeForce RTX 50 series graphics cards, powered by the Blackwell architecture, showcases their continued innovation in the consumer electronics space. Despite expectations that these new products won’t have a material impact on the gaming segment immediately, the technological enhancements such as improved performance and battery life position Nvidia well for future growth. Additionally, the introduction of other AI products and platforms, like the Cosmos platform for developing physical AI systems, further cements Nvidia’s position as a leader in AI technologies. These developments contribute to a positive outlook for Nvidia, supporting the Buy recommendation.

In another report released yesterday, Bernstein also assigned a Buy rating to the stock with a $175.00 price target.

Nvidia-topman deelt klap uit aan explosief in waarde gestegen quantumcomputerbedrijven: ‘Lastig torenhoge waarderingen waar te maken’
    Johan Wiering

Aangepast: 35 min geleden 42 min geleden in Financieel

    By Adam Clark

An Nvidia executive has sold $5.5 million worth of shares, in the first stock sale by an insider in 2025.

Ajay K. Puri, Nvidia´s executive vice president of worldwide field operations, sold shares on Monday and Tuesday in several transactions at average prices ranging from $150.41 to $152.50 each.

The sales were conducted under a so-called Rule 10b5-1 trading plan. Company insiders adopt such plans to remove the appearance of any bias they may have from the knowledge of nonpublic information. The plans automatically execute transactions when preset conditions such as volume, price, and timing are met.

Puri adopted on Sept. 30 a plan to sell as many as 204,890 shares through Dec. 30, 2025.

The shares sold had been held through a trust that Puri controls that now owns 3.90 million Nvidia shares, according to a form he filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Puri also owns 859,558 Nvidia shares in a personal account, and 46,360 shares through children´s trusts.

Nvidia shares closed at $140.11 on Wednesday. U.S. stock markets are closed on Thursday for a day of mourning for former President Jimmy Carter.
