    Republikeinen, die president Trump in staat hebben gesteld te zwijgen en naleven, zijn privé woedend op hem omdat hij hun meerderheid in de Senaat heeft opgeblazen.

    Het nieuws besturen: Democraat Raphael Warnock werd uitgeroepen tot winnaar van senator Kelly Loeffler in een van de dubbele Georgië-runoffs om 2 uur 's morgens en zal de eerste zwarte senator van de zuidelijke staat worden. Democraat Jon Ossoff ligt op schema om voormalig senator David Perdue te verslaan in de andere ronde, met de meeste van de uitstaande stemmen in democratische bolwerken.

    Die tweede overwinning zou betekenen dat de democratische leider van de senaat, Chuck Schumer, een effectieve meerderheidsleider wordt en de macht overneemt van Mitch McConnell.

    In een senaat van 50-50 zou de verkozen vicepresident Harris de banden verbreken.

    Waarom het belangrijk is: het is een passend en voorspelbaar einde aan de regering van Trump.

    De partij heeft nu het Huis, de Senaat en het Witte Huis op zijn wacht verloren.
    Hij laat de democraten de volledige controle over de agenda van Washington, met alleen de conservatieve meerderheid van het Hooggerechtshof als tegenwicht.
    Als een gordijnoproep voor het Trumpisme, zullen ongeveer een dozijn senatoren en 100+ huisrepublikeinen vandaag publiekelijk een idee steunen dat velen van hen idioot en gedoemd te mislukken vinden, omdat ze protesteren tegen de certificering door het congres van de overwinning van de verkozen president Biden.

    Wat de Senaatscontrole betekent voor Dems en Joe Biden:

    Ze kunnen proberen om grote uitgaven en belastingverhogingen door te voeren via begrotingsafstemming, waarvoor slechts een gewone meerderheid nodig is.
    Ze kunnen door genomineerden en gerechtelijke keuzes worden gestoord als ze verenigd blijven.
    Ze bepalen wat er op de grond komt en wanneer.

    Tussen de regels: het zou moeilijk zijn om groot te worden met een senaat van 50-50, dus ga niet uit van een substantiële verschuiving. Maar democratische controle zou een enorme klap zijn voor de Republikeinse hoop om alles op te blazen waar ze echt een hekel aan hebben.

    ?? Waar we naar kijken: Biden-bronnen vertellen Axios dat hij nu progressiever kan gaan met de resterende kabinetskeuzes, met name de procureur-generaal en de minister van Arbeid.

    Sally Yates, de voormalige waarnemend procureur-generaal die werd ontslagen door Trump, kon nu weer op tafel gaan om Biden's procureur-generaal te worden.

    Een grote winnaar: Stacey Abrams, die haar race voor de gouverneur van Georgië in 2018 op het nippertje verloor, activeerde de zwarte kiezers en werd het gezicht van de enorme democratische opkomst van gisteren.

    De grote verliezer: toprepublikeinen geven Trump de schuld voor het saboteren van wat twee gemakkelijke overwinningen hadden moeten zijn - kiezers in de voorsteden uitschakelen met zijn chaos en gekte, en wantrouwen zaaien in het verkiezingsmechanisme van de Peach State bij gewone kiezers.

    A lawyer advising President Trump in recent weeks has resigned from her law firm after it was revealed that she participated in the call where Mr. Trump pressured Georgia officials to help him reverse the state’s election results, the firm said in a statement on Tuesday.

    The lawyer, Cleta Mitchell, has been advising Mr. Trump despite a policy at her firm, Foley & Lardner, that none of its lawyers should represent clients involved in relitigating the presidential election.

    “Cleta Mitchell has informed firm management of her decision to resign from Foley & Lardner effective immediately,” the firm said in its statement. “Ms. Mitchell concluded that her departure was in the firm’s best interests, as well as in her own personal best interests. We thank her for her contributions to the firm and wish her well.”

    Ms. Mitchell’s resignation was the latest evidence of the problems Mr. Trump has created for law firms throughout his time in office, as their employees and clients object to ties with the president.

    Kennelijk is John Ossoff ook zeker van zijn zaak, want hij heeft zijn overwinningsspeech gegeven.

    Eén ding moet je Donald Trump nageven, de man kan liegen als de beste. En hij schroomt ook niet om dat de godganse tijd te doen. Tegen 5 november vorig jaar had de vertrekkende president van de VS al bijna 30.000 keer gelogen sinds het begin van zijn presidentschap.

    Dat schrijft The Washington Post in de Fact Checker-column van maandag. Daar is de berg desinformatie over verkiezingsfraude dus nog niet bij opgeteld. Alleen al in oktober vertelde Trump bijna 4000 keer niet de waarheid, aldus factchecker Glenn Kessler. Het ging veelal over de verkiezingen en tegenstrever Joe Biden. Op 2 november, de dag voor de verkiezingen, vestigde de president een record: 504 keer vertelde hij een leugen.

    Op 20 januari vorig jaar stond de teller op 16.241 leugens sinds het begin van Trumps presidentschap. “Maar hij is nu op weg om dat in één jaar te verdubbelen,” zegt Kessler. De meest verkondigde onwaarheid van de president? Dat hij ‘de beste economie ter wereld’ aan het opbouwen is.

    Maar ook over de coronapandemie verspreidde hij meer dan 2400 keer desinformatie. Trump zwakte de ernst van het virus af en bazelde over onbewezen medicijnen en behandelingen, zoals een injectie met desinfecterend middel.

    Het verschil is 0,15% dat is wel heel klein. Grote kans dat Perdue een hertelling aanvraagt.
    Op de kaart met de gebieden zie je wel dat de keuze van de regio bepalend is.
    Een republikeins gebied kiest republikeins, wie de kandidaat ook is.

    Er zijn genoeg mensen te vinden in Washington op dit moment verzamelt die menen dat de USA
    nu verloren is. Een eind aan de democratie, een eind aan vrijheid, een eind aan de american dream.
    Gek genoeg zijn dat meestal ook dezelfde mensen die niet in Covid-19 geloven, maar wel in God.

    The runoff is a gold mine for politicians. And now that they can run Facebook ads in Georgia, they’re rushing for it.

    Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) needs your help to keep the U.S. Senate in Republican hands. So blared a handful of Facebook ads that Cruz’s campaign committee purchased this month. But none of them were actually raising money for the Republican candidates in Georgia. Instead, every penny donated went directly to… Cruz.

    The Cruz campaign bought 15 separate ads on Facebook over the past two weeks, each featuring a video of the senator dramatically hyping the need to hold two U.S. Senate seats in Georgia runoff contests.

    “Gun-grabbing, tax hikes, open borders, and stacking the Supreme Court. That’s the radical Democrat agenda if they win the Georgia Senate elections,” Cruz declared.

    He asked for $5 contributions to his new “Keep Georgia Red fund.” But Facebook users who clicked through to the online donation page—and read the fine print at the bottom—would see that the actual beneficiary was Cruz’s own campaign committee, not Sens. Kelly Loeffler or David Perdue, the two Republicans running for re-election in Georgia.

    Cruz is just one of a number of elected officials of both parties using the competitive—and extremely expensive—Georgia runoff contests to raise money for themselves. Increasingly, those officials are doing so on Facebook, where a political ad ban instituted in late October was lifted this month, but only for ads in Georgia.

    That’s led to a rash of Facebook ads invoking the Senate contests in the state on behalf of out-of-state political candidates. On some occasions, the ads don’t even mention the runoff contests, but are targeted at users in Georgia in an effort to exploit Facebook’s state-specific political advertising policy.

    Facebook did not respond to questions about that apparent loophole. But the efforts by Cruz and others illustrates the difficulties the company has had in crafting a political ad policy that isn’t criticized as either too restrictive or too easy to exploit.

    “If you want to take back the Senate and retire Mitch McConnell, the single most important thing you can do right now is donate to elect Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff in Georgia,” the ads state. The ads link to a donation page that specifies that the funds will go not to Ossoff or Warnock, but to Gillibrand’s political action committee, Off the Sidelines PAC.

    Gillibrand’s PAC largely exists to steer funds to other Democratic candidates, so it’s not inconceivable that some of the money raised through those ads will support Democrats in Georgia. Indeed, the PAC donated to both Ossoff and Warnock ahead of the general election. But by law, it can only give each of them $5,000 before the runoff contest in January, likely less than what the PAC is raising with appeals to the Peach State senate contests.

    Dat is nu net het lot van alle dictators, gangsters, enz die het einde van hun macht bereiken. Niemand in hun naaste omgeving wil nog met hen te maken hebben. Pence zal zich snel als een bange hond uit de voeten proberen te maken , en de rest van zijn leven uit de belangstelling proberen te blijven. Trump zelf zal als een duivel in een watervat zich blijven proberen
    te verdedigen, beroep doende op zijn grootste wapen, n.l. de leugen. Zijn partij heeft haar lesje nu (hopelijk) geleerd, wel met schande en schande. Laar dit een lesje zijn voor alle populisten .

    Brazil's President Says Country Is 'Broke' (blut)

    With state subsidies to fight poverty now ended, Brazil's far-right President Jair Bolsonaro on Tuesday said his country is "broke" and he is unable to do anything about it, attributing the crisis to "the press-fueled" coronavirus.

    The subsidies which have kept millions of Brazilians from destitution ended as the pandemic, which has killed almost 200,000 people in the country, only worsens.

    "Brazil is broke, boss, I cannot do anything," the former army officer said, responding to one of the supporters who greeted him in front of his official residence in the capital Brasilia.

    "I wanted to modify the tax reduction table, but there was that press-fueled virus that we have there, that press without any character," Bolsonaro said.

    The reform he was referring to was a campaign promise for a raise in the level of tax-exempt income. Bolsonaro attributes the country's economic collapse to lockdown measures pushed by state governors to combat the coronavirus pandemic.

    Despite his country's soaring death toll, Bolsonaro saw his popularity rise thanks to emergency aid paid out for nine months to 68 million Brazilians, almost a third of the population.
