ICON 3D Prints Simulated Mars Surface Habitat for NASA

ICON, developer of advanced construction technologies including robotics, software, and building materials, announced it has been awarded a subcontract through Jacobs supporting NASA’s The Crew Health and Performance Exploration Analog to deliver a 3D-printed habitat, known as Mars Dune Alpha, at NASA’s Johnson Space Center. ICON’s next-gen Vulcan construction system will complete a 1,700 square-foot structure, designed by world-renowned architecture firm BIG-Bjarke Ingels Group, that will simulate a realistic Mars habitat to support long-duration, exploration-class space missions.

CHAPEA, is a sequence of three one-year Mars surface mission simulations at the NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston. The analog missions will provide valuable insights and information to assess NASA’s space food system, as well as physical and behavioral health and performance outcomes for future space missions. NASA will use research from the Mars Dune Alpha simulations to inform risk and resource trades to support crew health and performance for future missions to Mars when astronauts would live and work on the Red planet for long periods of time.

Future space exploration habitats have the potential to be 3D printed with additive construction technology to eliminate the need to launch large quantities of building materials on multiple flights, which is cost prohibitive.

Life in Mars Dune Alpha will resemble the expected experience for those living in a future Mars surface habitat. Designed by BIG-Bjarke Ingels Group, the layout of the innovative structure is organized in a gradient of privacy. Four private crew quarters will be located on one end of the habitat; dedicated workstations, medical stations and food-growing stations are located on the opposite end, with shared living spaces found in between. Varying ceiling heights vertically segmented by an arching shell structure accentuate the unique experience of each area to avoid spatial monotony and crew member fatigue. A mix of fixed and movable furniture will allow crew members to reorganize the habitat according to their daily needs, as will the customizable lighting, temperature, and sound control – helping regulate the daily routine, circadian rhythm, and overall well being of the crew.

Why PyroGenesis Canada Is Surging Over 7%

    https://ca.finance.yahoo.com/news/why-pyrogenesis-canada-surging-over-171956721.html

paragraaf uit het artikel vd link:

Could PyroGenesis be a millionaire-maker stock?
I’ve been a fan of the fast-growing Canadian high-tech industrial stock for quite some time. The company is growing in the right places and by the triple digits, and long-term returns are possible for patient investors. Indeed, this fast-rising stock could make some new millionaires this decade.

Annual revenue growth rates near 300% are simply too strong to ignore. Such growth rates are happening at a company with a globally patented technology. Its growing business has a clear and defendable moat.

I like the company’s clean balance sheet. There’s a low risk of shareholder dilution in the near term. The business remains adequately funded with over $18 million in cash and cash equivalents on its balance sheet.

If national governments globally remain resolute on their quest to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from fossil fuel burning, PyroGenesis will serve as a go-to provider of a low-cost furnace heating alternative that could make the entire iron ore smelting industry go green. Folks, we have a potential multi-billion dollar recurring revenue business in the making here.

Opportunities for PYR continue to ripen as its technology enters silicon manufacturing, hospital waste incineration, battery-grade nano-silicon production, and 3D printing for the aerospace and original equipment manufacturing verticals.

As a long-term play, PYR stock could potentially make new millionaires as the company empowers the world in fighting climate change.

ExOne, Maxxwell develop 3D-printed EV motor
    207 Views

North Huntingdon, Pennsylvania-based ExOne Company is partnering with Tennessee’s Maxxwell Motors to 3D-print the wound copper portion of its axial flux electric motors for the EV and industrial markets, Kallanish reports.

Maxxwell holds nine patents related to electric motors and offers a 10-kilowatt air-cooled motor generator and a 150-kW liquid-cooled motor.

“Optimised copper windings and rotors in electric motors are among the factors enabling the automotive industry’s transition to hybrid and pure electric power vehicles. However, current methods of manufacturing the windings are costly, inefficient, and limit designs in a way that also limits their performance,” the companies say in a statement.

The new process will use a binder jet 3D printing process to create a “monolithic” piece, rather than the pattern-wound and tooled assembly that currently dominates the market.

“When we 3D print it, a lot of the challenges just go away, and we can actually improve the performance of the motor itself,” says Maxxwell ceo Michael Paritee, formerly of General Motors. “At Maxxwell, we’re taking the most sustainable, and additive manufacturing, point of view as possible to truly improve efficiency, reduce waste and optimize performance.”

Sakuú to launch 3D-printed solid-state battery line
    137 Views

San Jose, California-based 3D-printing company Sakuú Corporation has launched a pilot line for solid-state batteries, Kallanish learns from a company announcement.

Sakuú claims the line will produce 2.5 megawatt-hours per year of batteries that will be “…50% smaller and 30% lighter than today’s lithium-ion batteries and much less expensive to produce in high volume.”

By 2022, the company aims to produce 1 gigwatt-hour of printed solid-state batteries per year.

“With the assistance of our key development partners, Relevant Industrial and Honeywell Process Solutions, the facility will be operational by the end of 2021,” says ceo Robert Bagheri. “This facility will enable us to provide our strategic customers and early access partners with solid-state batteries for their own development and testing.”

EBH2 believes it can scale to power the planned high purity silicon and Nano silicon production by HPQ. If successful, HPQ proposes to bundle the energy production capability of EBH2 systems with its silicon production to further reduce the environmental footprint of its developing high purity silicon, nano powders, and other Renewable Energy products. Moreover, if successful, EBH2 would provide HPQ with "power plant" capabilities that would allow it to produce its products anywhere on the planet.

CEO HPQ: "all the while opening up new, and massive addressable markets for a system that can produce cheaply green hydrogen, on demand .... The Agreement establishes the terms of the creation of a new Joint venture Company (“NEWCO”) owned by HPQ and EBH2 that will market, sell and service EBH2 systems and products in North America (Canada, Mexico, and the United States). .... units could readily replace solar panels or standby generators for homeowners."
