Test van nieuwe raket naar de maan voor de derde keer mislukt
RTL Nieuws / AP 10 uur geleden

Pure waterstof is zeer explosief.

In addition to driving shareholder returns through its core business, Suncor will strengthen its focus on hydrogen and renewable fuels to accelerate progress towards its objective to be a net-zero company by 2050. Optimizing the portfolio to drive shareholder returns and continue to reduce emissions requires focus and discipline. Therefore, Suncor plans to divest its wind and solar assets.

Suncor has been a sustainability leader for over twenty years and has played a pivotal role in developing the Canadian renewable power industry. In 2002, Suncor partnered with Enbridge to build one of the first renewable energy projects in Canada and since then, Suncor has developed eight wind power projects in three provinces - Saskatchewan, Alberta and Ontario. Moving forward, Suncor will continue to participate in many aspects of the electricity value chain, including producing power through its integrated co-generation operations, through power marketing and trading, by providing customers with EV charging and potentially procuring renewable power through power purchase agreements.

Suncor’s strategy is focused on increasing shareholder returns and accelerating its progress to be a net-zero company by 2050. In support of this objective, Suncor is focusing its efforts in areas that are complementary to its base business including replacing coke-fired boilers at Base Plant with lower emission cogeneration units and accelerating commercial scale deployment of carbon capture technology. Other targeted activities include partnering with ATCO on a project to build a world-scale hydrogen project in Alberta and deploying next generation renewable fuel technologies like Lanzajet’s sustainable aviation fuel technology and Enerkem’s waste to fuels technology.

In a similar portfolio optimization undertaking in alignment with its strategies and focus on shareholder value, Suncor recently announced the intended divestment of the Norway exploration and production assets as well as the planned sell down of its Rosebank interest in the UK North Sea. The disposition process is underway with an expected close later this year.

Supporting the decarbonization of the economy through the production of green hydrogen for industrial use and thus contributing to the security of energy supply in the European Union is the objective of the agreement announced today by the European Investment Bank, the Official Credit Institute and Iberdrola. To this end, the EU bank will provide the Spanish energy company with EUR 53 million and the ICO will provide EUR 35 million, both loans certified as green finance, for the development of a 100 MW photovoltaic plant, a 20 MWh battery and a 20 MW green hydrogen production plant in Puertollano (Ciudad Real), Castilla-La Mancha, one of the largest plants in Europe. This is the first joint green financing by the two organisations for the development of green hydrogen.

The green hydrogen can be consumed by the fertiliser industry located near the plant, replacing the grey hydrogen produced from natural gas.

The project will generate renewable electricity and green hydrogen. These technologies will contribute to the sustainable recovery of the economy and job creation in Castilla-La Mancha, n. It is estimated that around 300 jobs will be created during the implementation phase and that the new photovoltaic plant will contribute to generating around 160 GWh of electricity per year, equivalent to the annual energy consumption of 48,000 Spanish households. The electrolyser will be able to produce 1,000 tonnes of green hydrogen per year.

UK Government Designing Net Zero Hydrogen Fund

    Strategic Research Institute
    Published on :
    19 Apr, 2022, 6:30 am

Based on feedback and further policy development work, UK Government has made some modifications to the Fund’s design to maximise its impact. It proposes to split the NZHF’s grant allocation into the following 4 strands:

Strand 1: DEVEX (development expenditure) for FEED studies and post FEED costs

Strand 2: CAPEX (capital expenditure) for projects that do not require revenue support through the hydrogen business model

Strand 3: CAPEX for non-CCUS enabled projects that also require revenue support through the hydrogen business model

Strand 4: CAPEX for CCUS-enabled projects that require revenue support through the hydrogen business model

UK government response focuses on how it has incorporated this feedback into the final scheme design for strands 1 and 2, along with an overview of our approach to strands 3 and 4. It has made the following key modifications to the Fund’s design for strand 1 and 2:

Hydrogen production projects will be able to apply for co-funding through strand 1 if they require support with DEVEX costs for FEED and post-FEED costs. Feasibility and pre-FEED will not be covered

Where appropriate, support will also be available for FEED and post-FEED costs for associated on-site transport and storage infrastructure

To ensure the NZHF delivers a diverse and balance spread of projects, we intend to adopt a portfolio approach which will build in additional policy levers / controls to the project selection process

Strand 1 projects could receive up to 50% of their total eligible costs and strand 2 projects could receive up to 30%

The competition briefs for Strand 1 (projects seeking DEVEX) and strand 2 (projects seeking NZHF capex co-funding alone) will be published by UKRI on 19 April 2022. The first wave of funding for these strands will open on 25 April 2022. The application window for strand 1 will close on 22 June and strand 2 will close on 6 July 2022.

If projects are looking to combine capital funding from the Net Zero Hydrogen Fund with revenue support from the Hydrogen Business Model, they will instead need to apply through the joint allocation round which we intend to open in summer. The market engagement exercise (see below) sets out more detail and seeks further input on this joint allocation round. We will open the first joint allocation round window in early July 2022.

CCUS-enabled projects applying for a hydrogen business model through Phase-2 of the CCUS cluster sequencing process will have an opportunity to apply for NZHF capital co-funding (strand 4).

UK Government plan tso launch a strand 4 NZHF ‘Expression of Interest’ process following the announcement of the Phase-2 shortlisted projects, followed by a strand 4 application process in early 2023.

SSE & Siemens Gamesa to Produce Hydrogen at Gordonbush Wind Farm

    Strategic Research Institute
    Published on :
    19 Apr, 2022, 6:30 am

Leading low-carbon energy company SSE has taken the next step in its green hydrogen push with SSE Renewables and Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy unveiling plans to produce and deliver green hydrogen through electrolysis, using renewable energy from SSE’s 100MW-plus Gordonbush onshore wind farm in Sutherland in the Scottish Highlands.

Under the new plans, green hydrogen would be produced by SSE Renewables at Gordonbush wind farm using Siemens Gamesa’s Renewable Hydrogen Upgrade solution. The green hydrogen could then be used as a clean alternative to petrol, diesel or natural gas to help decarbonise hard-to-abate sectors such as industry, transport and manufacturing. The move follows last year’s agreement between both companies to explore opportunities to produce green hydrogen on co-located onshore wind farm sites.

The plans unveiled by SSE Renewables would see the integration of Siemens Gamesa’s Renewable Hydrogen Upgrade at its Gordonbush site near Brora, comprising electrolyser and ancillary technology. The facility would be capable of producing up to 2,000 tonnes of green hydrogen each year using wind energy generated at Gordonbush, helping the UK and Scottish Governments in reaching their net zero targets, while supporting the UK’s goal of hitting 5 gigawatts (GW) of low carbon hydrogen production by 2030.

The overall development would also include a battery energy storage system which would be capable of storing any surplus, or constrained, renewable energy produced by the wind farm at times of excess wind on the electrical grid. This would allow such excess green energy to be stored in lithium-ion batteries for possible later use, including the potential to power the electrolyser for green hydrogen production or to dispatch to the national grid at times when the wind is not blowing. Deployed at scale, the technology can help balance the grid by smoothing out the natural variability of wind – meaning wind power can provide both clean and secure energy supplies.

The project will also see SSE Renewables working to explore opportunities to unlock the full potential of the green hydrogen value chain in the Scottish Highlands and support Scotland’s emerging green hydrogen economy. This will include working with potential green hydrogen customers from high carbon sectors looking to decarbonise their energy and fuel supplies.

The operational Gordonbush Wind Farm and the recently completed Extension are situated in an area between 2km north west and 10 km west of Brora. Gordonbush comprises a total of 46 onshore turbines, including 11 of the latest Siemens Gamesa turbines forming the extension to the site, generating up to 108 megawatts (MW) of wind-powered electricity, enough renewable energy to power over 105,000 Scottish homes each year.

Hydrogen Powered Cargo Ship Gets Support from Enova

    Strategic Research Institute
    Published on :
    19 Apr, 2022, 6:30 am

The world's first hydrogen powered cargo ship receives NOK 100 million in support from Enova. This means that Egil Ulvan Rederi can build the zero-emission cargo ship With Orca. A cargo ship that will sail on a long-term contract for HeidelbergCement and Felleskjøpet Agri, and is scheduled to be put into operation in 2024.

The cargo ship shall be equipped with a hydrogen combustion engine, as well as a hydrogen fuel cell and battery, to ensure optimal operation during loading and unloading operations. The vessel has a number of energy-saving measures such as Flettner rotors. That is, cylinders that spin around in the wind and give the ship propulsion. The specially designed hull, with immersion cooler and adapted rudder solution, makes it possible to utilize the wind to a greater extent than has been demonstrated previously.

Another innovative measure is the use of technology for the conversion of heat loss by energy conversion into electrical energy. This is technology that has been used in land-based industry, but which is not widespread on board ships.

It all started with a pilot in the Green Shipping Program. The product owners HeidelbergCement and Felleskjøpet Agri, with support from the GSP Service Office for Green Fleet Renewal, took the initiative. They challenged the market by designing a zero-emission vessel that could combine the transport to the two companies.

After a tender competition with approx. 30 shipping companies received the project support from Pilot-E to develop a new ship design. What characterizes the project is a comprehensive zero-emission concept with hydrogen as fuel and an energy-efficient hull.

    19 Apr, 2022, 6:30 am

Eneco is joining the green hydrogen consortium NortH2 as an investment partner. Green hydrogen is an important step in the implementation of Eneco's One Planet Plan, which is aiming at climate neutrality by 2035 for Eneco and its customers. Part of the plan is phasing out natural gas at customers and in electricity and heat production. Eneco plans to make further investments in green hydrogen, alongside NortH2. NortH2 will enable hydrogen to be made available on a large scale in the Netherlands in the future.

NortH2’s aim is to have up to 4GW of electrolysers and matching offshore wind capacity available by 2030. NortH2 has recently completed the second phase of the feasibility study, which shows that an integrated approach — from offshore wind farms, production, storage and distribution to ultimately the use of the green hydrogen — is technically and economically feasible. One other requirement is for the government to create the right policy framework.

During the current study phase, NortH2 consists of Shell, Equinor, RWE and Gasunie with Groningen Seaports as support partners and is now joined by Eneco. Shell, Equinor, RWE and Eneco, with the support of Groningen Seaports, intend to continue to work together after the study phase and jointly produce a large-scale supply of green hydrogen for industry.

It has also been announced today that NortH2 has entered into a collaboration agreement with OCI N.V. for the integrated development of 1GW of green ammonia and green methanol value chains based on green hydrogen supplied by NortH2.

The NortH2 partners are prepared to make significant investments. For Eneco this involves hundreds of millions of euros. In order to be able to take a concrete investment decision and to achieve the Dutch and European climate and hydrogen targets for 2030, a number of important policy conditions must be met in the short term:

    Published on :
    18 Apr, 2022, 6:30 am

Hyundai is recalling 54 examples of the 2019 Nexo hydrogen-fuel-cell-powered crossover because of the possibility of leaking hydrogen, which could lead to a fire. These vehicles have production dates from August 10, 2018, to December 17, 2018. according to the filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the receptacle filter can detach immediately after filling with hydrogen. This could cause the refueling inlet not to seal correctly. If this occurs, then fuel could leak out, and in the presence of an ignition source, there might be a fire.

Hyundai says that the cause of this problem is: "The supplier used a prototype epoxy-bonded filter in place of the original laser-welded filter specified by design."

On March 16, 2022, Hyundai Motor Company notified its North American division that a 2019 Nexo caught fire in South Korea after refueling at a hydrogen station. The company investigated the incident and found that material from the fuel inlet detached and allowed hydrogen to leak out. The owner heard an abnormal noise and opened the fuel filler door to investigate. The investigation suspected that static electricity from the person's hand discharged into the fuel cap and ignited the leaking hydrogen. This caused a fire. The fueling station had a fire suppression system that extinguished the blaze within seconds, according to Hyundai's submitted chronology. The investigation found this vehicle didn't have the proper, laser-welded fuel inlet receptacle filter. The automaker believes the case in South Korea is the only Nexo fire to come from this defect.

The Ebro Hydrogen Corridor Launched in Spain

    Strategic Research Institute
    Published on :
    18 Apr, 2022, 6:30 am

The Ebro Hydrogen Corridor was launched. The project seeks to enhance inter-territorial coordination and serve as a link between the major regional initiatives for renewable hydrogen already underway in northeastern Spain. The new corridor aims to play a leading role in the decarbonization of industry in the region while improving competitiveness and attracting new investments. The project is supported by regional entities such as the Basque Hydrogen Corridor Association BH2C; ACCIÓ - Agency for Enterprise Competitiveness as the entity responsible for the Hydrogen Valley of Catalonia H2ValleyCat; the Foundation for the Development of New Hydrogen Technologies in Aragon (Fundación Hidrógeno Aragón) as the entity responsible for the coordination of the Aragon Hydrogen Valley "GetHyGA Initiative"; and the Industry Association of Navarre AIN together with the Society for the Development of Navarre SODENA as promoters of the Navarre Green Hydrogen Agenda.

The driver behind the creation of this consortium is SHYNE (Spanish Hydrogen Network) – the largest multisectoral renewable hydrogen consortium in Spain, launched last January. It plays a key role in the integration of projects nationwide – motivated by the desire to share information and to analyze and study complementary actions that establish synergies between regional initiatives. SHYNE will also provide support to the projects developed through this initiative as well as capacity for knowledge management and promotion of research into pioneering technologies with the aim of positioning Spain at the forefront of the development of this renewable energy vector.

The Ebro Hydrogen Corridor will promote actions throughout the value chain, including production, transport, uses, and storage. In terms of renewable hydrogen production, the consortium aims to install a production capacity of 400 MW in 2025 (entailing 1.5 GW of associated renewable generation production capacity), and 1.5 GW in 2030 (6 GW of renewables).

Another of its key lines of action will focus on promoting the end uses of renewable hydrogen, both in the transport sector and for industrial use. The objective of achieving an annual production of 250,000 tons of products derived from renewable hydrogen, such as methanol, ammonia or synthetic fuels by 2030, is especially important. The consortium will also promote the creation of an infrastructure network with 20 hydrogen fueling stations by 2025, with up to 100 points by 2030, to facilitate the use of renewable hydrogen in land, maritime, and rail transport.

In addition, cross-border projects for renewable hydrogen storage and transport will be promoted with Southern France to favor interconnection with Europe and position Spain as a relevant producer in the continental hydrogen market. This will be carried out in coordination with the Working Community of the Pyrenees, a cross-border, inter-territorial organisation.

    18 Apr, 2022, 6:30 am

After the introduction of HyTrucks in the spring of 2020 more and more parties have expressed interest in joining this initiative and working together on freight transport based on hydrogen. The aim is to have at least 1,000 trucks in the Netherlands, Belgium and West Germany driving on hydrogen by 2025. The Port of Rotterdam has now been expanded to include 60 parties in three countries and is being implemented in close collaboration with the ports of Rotterdam, Antwerp and Duisburg. It concerns hydrogen suppliers, truck manufacturers, refuelling station operators, forwarders and shippers. Other parties are still applying to join.

Along with electrification and other existing alternatives, clean hydrogen is needed in the energy mix to enable heavy road haulage to be emissions-free. With the developments in trucks and the network, it is possible to go long distances with a truck driving on hydrogen. This will make achieving the European climate goals and implementing and enforcing zero emissions in cities feasible. The transition to completely green hydrogen is an important precondition for this, which is being worked on jointly through policy and governmental support.

HyTrucks is one of Europe’s largest projects aimed at developing hydrogen-powered trucks and the associated infrastructure. The project leads to improved air quality and a reduction in CO2 emissions of an estimated 100,000 tons, the equivalent of 110 million truck-kilometres.

The ARGO ship has a gross payload capacity of 200 tons, a range of up to 1500 NM, and a cruise speed of 40 knots, which is twice that of conventional container ships. This performance would enable door-door transit times only 15 to 24 hours slower than air freight, but at 50% of the price, according to the company. ARGO is powered by green hydrogen and fuel cells, which is stored as a liquid inside it’s two hulls.

The speed and price advantages are enabled by the company’s proprietary hydrofoil technology which is key to allowing ARGO to travel at 40 knots while using a fraction of the fuel that a conventional ship would need when traveling at the same high speed. A hydrofoil is a submerged wing device used to lift the hull from the water to reduce drag. The company has already completed development of key pieces of ARGO’s technology stack, and is on track to perform full scale sub system tests by the end of 2023.

At 110 ft long and 20 TEU capacity, ARGO is a fraction of the size of conventional container ships, the largest being the OOCL Hong Kong which measures a whopping 1300ft and carries over 20,000 containers. This unusually small size could be the key to solving many supply chain issues

The company is currently selecting launch partners for an intra-Asia ARGO service launching in Q3 2024 to ship finished goods and components for major electronic manufacturers in the region. It has future plans to launch a larger vessel on a transpacific service for which it has a $180m Letter of Intent from the digital freight forwarder, Flexport.

Boundary Layer Technologies is a marine technology startup backed by the accelerator Y Combinator, as well as Chris Sacca's Lower Carbon Capital. Their mission is to decarbonize marine and air transport by utilizing hydrofoils and zero emissions technologies.

Gasunie, HES International and Vopak will be working together to develop an import terminal for green ammonia as a hydrogen carrier. The companies have signed a cooperation agreement to that effect. The cooperation is a response to growing global demand for the import and storage of green energy. This quarter, work will be started on the basic design of the import terminal. The terminal, that will operate on the Maasvlakte under the name ACE Terminal, will be operational from 2026.

At the intended location on Rotterdam’s Maasvlakte, vessels from all over the world can moor to discharge green ammonia, and in the initial phase possibly also blue ammonia. Use can be made of the existing infrastructure and the logistic facilities of the Port of Rotterdam. The site offers space for the development of an installation for converting ammonia into hydrogen. In the future, this installation will be connected to the national hydrogen network of Gasunie, that can serve the future hydrogen market in Northwestern Europe.
