    Internet giant Google has committed to building a massive new headquarters building at King’s Cross designed by BIG and Heatherwick Studio

    The company, which employs around 4,000 people in the UK, told the BBC that it was looking to more than double the office space it currently occupies on developer Argent’s flagship regeneration site.

    Google said it planned to invest more than £1billion in the new King’s Cross building and the cost of hiring thousands more staff.

    The huge office scheme was effectively put on hold in November 2013 after Google called for AHMM’s consented scheme to be redesigned. Heatherwick Studios and BIG (Bjarke Ingels Group) were subsequently brought in - but the new designs have yet to be released.

    Both BIG and Heatherwick Studio are already working on Google’s HQ in Mountain View, California.

    Speaking to the BBC, Sundar Pichai, the chief executive of Google, said: ’We see big opportunities here. This is a big commitment from us - we have some of the best talent in the world in the UK and to be able to build great products from here sets us up well for the long term.

    ’So we did [make the investment decision] taking into consideration [the referendum], but we are very optimistic.’

    He added: ’We are committed to the UK and excited to continue our investment in our new King’s Cross campus.’

    London Mayor, Sadiq Khan was quick to welcome the news, saying: ’This is a vote of confidence in our great city – creating high-skilled jobs, supporting growth and demonstrating that London is open to business, new investment and talent from around the globe.

    ’London is one the world’s leading technology hubs and investment into the capital post-Brexit remains robust, so Google’s expansion will further strengthen our city’s reputation as a global leader in digital technology.’

    It is understood Google approached a number of contractors during the summer to build the HQ just north of King’s Cross station.

    Some of the UK’s top contractors are believed to have been contacted by Argent, in a move which goes beyond the developer’s 20-year relationship with the three firms on its framework: Bam Construct, Carillion and Kier.

    Mace and Sir Robert McAlpine are understood to be among those interested in the scheme.

    Bam Construct was originally appointed as main contractor on the original scheme in March 2013, in a deal worth £300 million.

    Plans for the new London HQ have an estimated construction value of more than £600million: £400million for the shell and core, and around £200million for the fit out.

    Google’s staff are currently spread across offices in Covent Garden and Victoria, with the new offices bringing them together under one roof.

    The tech giant already has a presence at the King’s Cross redevelopment site, having taken 6 Pancras Square.

    It is also developing an office block known as S2 on the site, which was given the green light by Camden Council in March. The 280,000 sq ft building is 10 storeys high and was designed by Mossessian Architecture.

    The 27 ha King’s Cross site is one of the largest redevelopments in London. The masterplan includes 50 buildings and 1,900 homes. It is being developed by the Kings Cross Central Limited Partnership, which includes Argent, DHL and London & Continental Railways and was formed in 2008.

    A spokesperson for Argent said: ’The office community at King’s Cross is going from strength to strength; rents have appreciated 100 per cent in the last five years.’

    Eerste paal voor Het Platform: de nieuwe MicroCity bij Utrecht Centraal

    Wethouder Victor Everhardt heeft op 15 november 2016 de eerst paal geslagen voor de geïntegreerde bouw van Het Platform (voorheen Zuidgebouw) en het nieuwe bus-tramstation van de Uithoflijn. Eind 2015 heeft de gemeente Utrecht deze ontwikkeling gegund aan ABC Planontwikkeling met Westplan Investors NV. Architect is VenhoevenCS architecture+urbanism. De bouw wordt ter hand genomen door BAM Bouw en Techniek en Combinatie BAM Uithoflijn. Het bovenliggend gebouw Het Platform is ontworpen als een slimme en duurzame MicroCity, gericht op een gezonde levensstijl in een inspirerende omgeving, met veel licht, lucht en groen. Het project wordt in 2018 opgeleverd, inclusief de onderliggende bus-tramterminal. De eindbelegger voor dit gebouw is Delta Lloyd Levensverzekering NV.

    Het Platform wordt een nieuwe plek in Utrecht om te wonen, eten, chillen, sporten en werken. Het gebouw, gelegen boven op het nieuwe bus-tramstation, markeert de oostzijde van Utrecht Centraal. De doelgroep bestaat uit mensen die kiezen voor een gezonde levensstijl, die direct toegang willen tot de stad en geloven in het delen van ruimtes, goederen en diensten.

    Met Delta Lloyd als eindbelegger zullen circa 200 huurappartementen worden ontwikkeld, waarbij in de onderliggende twee lagen aanvullende voorzieningen worden gerealiseerd, zoals een fitnessstudio, restaurant, een loungebar, vergader-/ontmoetingsruimten en dienstverlening (van klussenhulp tot mobility-services) voor bewoners en bezoekers. Deze voorzieningen zijn vrij toegankelijk en dragen bij aan zowel het planconcept als aan de omgeving. De bewoner deelt de faciliteiten die het gebouw biedt met zijn medebewoners, zoals een gezamenlijk dakterras en binnentuin, en met bezoekers uit de rest van de stad, zoals de fitnessstudio, het restaurant en een openbaar terras.

    Het concept van Het Platform gaat uit van een MicroCity: een gebied met een gemengde samenstelling van wonen, werken en voorzieningen binnen loopafstand. In dit gebied wordt gestreefd naar een circulaire economie en een zo duurzaam mogelijk lokaal metabolisme (‘stofwisseling’). Het Platform omvat in totaal circa 18.500 m2 bruto vloeroppervlak.

    Ambitieuze opgave
    Met de ondertekening van de contracten tussen de ontwikkelaar, gemeente, provincie en aannemer een jaar geleden is het mogelijk gemaakt dat Het Platform en het bus-tramstation gelijktijdig gebouwd kunnen worden. Door de constructieve integratie wordt de helft minder staal en beton gebruikt, wat duurzamer is en bovendien voor minder bouwoverlast zorgt. Ook wordt de ruimtelijke kwaliteit op de perrons vergroot, doordat er minder en dunnere kolommen komen.

    Victor Everhardt, wethouder Stationsgebied van de gemeente Utrecht: “Ik ben trots op wat de betrokken partijen hier hebben gerealiseerd. Het is een zeer ambitieuze en complexe opgave geweest om binnen een jaar klaar te zijn voor het slaan van de eerste paal. En het is ons gelukt. We zijn hier een gebied aan het ontwikkelen voor de toekomst met grote betekenis voor de stad en de bewoners. Het Platform past met haar groene daken en duurzame ontwerp in de gezonde verstedelijking van het centrum die we hier gaan realiseren.”

    Ontwikkelcombinatie
    ABC Planontwikkeling werkt samen met Westplan Investors NV, die zorgdraagt voor de projectfinanciering en veel ervaring heeft met mixed-use planconcepten in de VS. Architectenbureau is VenhoevenCS architecture+urbanism, dat concepten als MicroCity en Transit-Oriented Development internationaal toepast in onder meer Beijing en Parijs. Het gehele technische ontwikkelmanagement inclusief directievoering en toezicht wordt verzorgd door ABC Nova. Inmiddels is ook de eindbelegger Delta Lloyd betrokken bij deze ontwikkeling.

    Marcel Loosen, partner in ABC, verantwoordelijk voor conceptontwikkeling: “Het is voor ons een voorrecht juist op de deze centrale en complexe locatie in Utrecht bovenop het drukste ov-knooppunt van Nederland, onze opvattingen over projectontwikkeling te mogen uitrollen. Deze opgave is zoveel meer dan bouwen.”

    Best of Book gelanceerd.
    (ABM FN-Dow Jones) Euronext wil particuliere beleggers betere prijzen gaan bieden bij de aan- en verkoop van aandelen door de introductie van het Best of Book. Dit maakte het beursbedrijf woensdag bekend.
    Het Best of Book is per direct geïntroduceerd en heeft volgens Euronext al een grote groep brokers gevonden die gebruik maken van deze nieuwe mogelijkheid om voor meer dan 550 veel verhandelde fondsen op Euronext betere prijzen te bieden aan de particuliere belegger. Dit kan volgens het beursbedrijf doordat er een extra laag van liquiditeit voor particuliere orders in het centrale orderboek is toegevoegd door een groep uitverkozen liquiditeitsverstrekkers.
    Indien een order niet wordt gematcht door een van deze liquiditeitsverstrekkers, dan wordt de order direct doorgezet naar het centrale orderboek.
    In een pilotfase van het Best of Book in het derde kwartaal van dit jaar leverde de nieuwe dienst volgens Euronext een gemiddelde besparing op voor particuliere beleggers van 9,87 basispunten.

    Ze kunnen beter die flashhandel aanpakken en de bijbehorende MM's
    Nieuwe DagLaag.
    Dat moet naar 4,08 en 4,071 bid :( laaielichters, al weer 5,5 cent ingeleverd om niets.

    Niets kan Bam goed doen of slecht het wordt altijd afgestraft als de beurs of andere aandelen lager koerst. Heeft met de onderneming niks van doen, maar een pispaal moeten ze altijd hebben en daar staat BAM op. Weken doe je over een paar cent stijging, minuten voor dezelfde daling.

    Leeds City Council’s new base Merrion House starts taking shape

    The new façade of Merrion House, an office building in Leeds city centre, is now taking as the final concrete panel is removed and BAM Construction continues the installation of the building’s glazing and cladding.

    The 170,000 sq ft office space is jointly owned by Town Centre Securities Plc and Leeds City Council as part of a partnership between public and private sectors.

    BAM Construction was appointed earlier this year to deliver the project.

    Simon Sutcliffe, project manager at BAM, said: “Deconstructing the ten-storey building, before recladding and refurbishing is a huge task.

    “There were 705 concrete panels to strip off the building, each weighing between two and four tonnes, before modern cladding could be installed. Months of meticulous planning are now paying off and it is great to see the new look taking shape”.

    Two tower cranes have been in place to lift panels from the building, one strip at a time, before the new glazing and curtain walling were installed using mast climbers.

    The concrete panels have been taken away to a quarry in Bramhope, Leeds, where they have had the steel reinforcement extracted and recycled before the remaining concrete is crushed and certified for reuse for other construction projects.

    Edward Ziff, chairman and chief executive of Town Centre Securities, commented: “Real progress is being made with the redevelopment and the revitalised Merrion House will be another key component to the northern side of the city centre, complementing the nearby Merrion Centre and Arena Quarter, and supporting the continued economic and cultural growth of the area”.

    Merrion House, which was originally constructed for use by Leeds City Council in 1973, is currently undergoing significant refurbishment in order for the council to return with all public facing services under one roof.

    This is part of a plan to reduce the number of council buildings in the city centre from 17 to just four.

    Councillor Judith Blake, Leader of Leeds City Council, added: “It is good to see further progress being made as this is an important move for the council in being able to operate as efficiently as possible both in the city centre and in local communities.

    “Having all public facing services under one roof will make it easier and reduce multiple visits to different offices”.
