FF een apart draadje voor Tricoya, wel handig evt.

    23 March 2015

Modified wood panel products are a reality and boast vastly superior stability and durability characteristics compared to standard wood based panels, reports Stephen Powney.

When Medite Tricoya modified MDF was launched in England in 2011 it caused quite a stir.

The claims were big: here was a product opening up a whole new market for MDF - exterior applications based on its durability and stability credentials conferred in a fibre modification process. It was hailed as the biggest development in the panels sector for many years and would take on rival materials.

The product, branded Medite Tricoya Extreme Durable MDF, is a natural further development from Accoya modified solid wood - radiata pine - which is modified through a wood acetylation process which gives performance characteristics akin to the best tropical hardwoods.

Fantoni group plans new MDF plant
    april 17, 2015

The Italian wood-based panels and office furniture manufacturer Fantoni group has announced investments of EUR 60 million in the construction of a new plant for MDF production. As Italian media reports, the group thus wants to increase competitiveness and to improve environmental impact. The announcement was made by Giovanni Fantoni, the owner of the group, during a recent conference.

At the conference, Fantoni has also presented data on Italian wood furniture sector: the industry fell 14 billion in revenue, a decrease of 14,000 companies and the loss of 60,000 jobs since the beginning of the economic crisis. Fantoni also stated that these data can be partially offset by the activity of exports in 2015, which may reach pre-crisis levels.

Fantoni group is an Italian leader in the production of MDF, chipboard panels and office furniture. Fantoni has an income of more than 400 million euros, with more than 1500 employees among the eight companies that compose the Group

Medite Tricoya roofline 1st February 2015

Many readers will be familiar with the Accoya brand of timber products which have been enhanced by Accsys Technologies’ structural modification process – known as acetylation - employed in locations as diverse as marine works and fenestration for the most exposed of high-rise blocks. Now the same process has been applied to the raw wood chips which go into Coillte’s new generation MDF panels: with game-changing results. Peter Clifton is Coillte’s Product Manager for Medite Tricoya Extreme and comments: “For the social housing sector parameters such as thermal efficiency, weathering and durability have always been of a very high importance; which is why they are taking a keen interest in Medite Tricoya Extreme.

..Not only are companies like Masterdor phasing Medite Tricoya Extreme into their own production processes to improve quality and reap the benefit of reduced call-backs, but Coillte is engaged with its customers on offering further size variations and other enhancements; while the material itself is already in use across a number of RSL projects.

Medite Tricoya Extreme is dream ticket for oldest roller coaster

In the seaside town Margate in Kent, Medite Tricoya Extreme has provided the perfect combination of strength, durability and a stunning aesthetic during the careful restoration of the Scenic Railway – Britain’s oldest roller coaster and the main attraction at the recently re-opened Dreamland theme park.

Originally opened as a park in 1920, but with amusement rides on the site from as early as 1880, Dreamland has been attracting thrill seekers and holidaymakers for decades.

Following the park’s closure in 2005, its iconic Grade II* listed wooden roller coaster was partially destroyed by fire with 25% of the structure damaged beyond repair.

With £18 million of public funding, a £3 million Heritage Lottery grant and £4 million of additional council investment, the theme park underwent a huge redevelopment. A key part of an ongoing regeneration of Margate town centre by Thanet Council, the amusement park’s rejuvenation included the sensitive restoration of the Scenic Railway – one of only eight scenic railways in the world.

Working closely with contractor TopBond Group, WGH Ltd was appointed to rebuild the railway’s two three-carriage trains and restore the ride's mechanical operation. With inherent strength, weather resistance and a sympathetic aesthetic to the original design the key requirements, WGH turned to the proven performance of Medite Tricoya Extreme for the carriages’ seating and flooring.

“As a major supplier of rides to the leisure industry, we traditionally work with aluminium and steel in the design and manufacture of both carriages and mechanical engineering elements,” said Tony Brown, Director at WGH. “It’s the first time we have used timber and we turned to the lightweight and weather resistance of Medite Tricoya Extreme to create seating areas for 28 people in six carriages across two trains.”

He added: “We also used Medite Tricoya Extreme panels for the carriage floors. Painted and finished with a slip resistant coating, this ensured we not only achieved excellent health and safety standards but a fast, efficient installation.”

Due to the proprietary acetylation treatment process used to treat the wood elements, Medite Tricoya Extreme has a naturally altered unique chemical structure. This process greatly reduces the ability of the panels to absorb water, creating a dimensionally stable and extremely durable product with a 50 year guarantee, backed by independent British Board of Agrément (BBA) assessment.

Opening to the general public on 16th October 2015, the new-look Scenic Railway met the demands of both the theme park owners and their visitors – combining a nostalgic 1920s design with modern regulatory and safety standards. The specification of Medite Tricoya Extreme for the carriages proved ideal in the restoration of a wooden roller coaster that remains true to its past, whilst proving fit for the future.

Key innovations which are shaping tomorrow's decorative surfaces industry

    ....
Paul Clegg, Chief Executive Officer of Accsys Technologies and Chairman of Tricoya Technologies Ltd, presented a success story of acetylation technology which allows the production of formaldehyde-free and fully recyclable Accoya solid wood and Tricoya MDF panels. Accoya has already been accredited with Cradle-to-Cradle certificate, while Tricoya is in the process of achieving it. Accsys Group’s revenues have been growing at double digits annually in the last five years.

Peter Clifton, Product Manager for Medite Tricoya Extreme of Coillte Panel Products, stressed the need for exterior surfaces that are non-toxic, long lasting (up to the 50 year warranty of Medite Tricoya Extreme), with minimal maintenance required and a low carbon footprint. Medite Tricoya Extreme is 100% recyclable in its raw panel form, can be re-used in panel production and utilised by any biomass facility to generate energy.

These USPs are not leveraged if decorative surfaces do not match them. Mr Clifton encouraged the decorative surfaces industry to work together with Medite Tricoya Extreme to ensure that not only the substrate, but finished products are 100% recyclable.
