Tahal - The "National Water Carrier" of Southeast Turkey

The "National Water Carrier" of Southeastern Turkey, a project undertaken by TAHAL Consulting Engineers Ltd., part of the Kardan Group, has swelled by US$ 22 million and is currently valued at US$ 222 million

The Yaylak Plain Irrigation Project, currently being constructed by Kardan Group's TAHAL Consulting Engineers Ltd., a company that specializes in promotion, planning and construction of infrastructure projects, has grown by US$ 22 million and now stands at a total value of US$ 222 million. The project involves the conveyance of water from the Ataturk Dam on the Euphrates River via an 83 km-long open canal of the order of magnitude of Israel's National Water Carrier, the aim being to supply water for irrigation and agricultural development of an area of about 18,300 hectares in southeastern Turkey.

The project is being carried out as a cooperative effort between TAHAL and Turkish companies, with financing provided by Bank Leumi, NIB and ABN AMRO based on a bilateral agreement between the governments of Israel and Turkey. The project commenced five years ago and the President of Turkey recently approved an additional sum of US$ 22 million for its financing.

Says Nahman Tsabar, President & CEO of TAHAL: "TAHAL is continuing with its policy of expansion with respect to the scope of its projects, both in Israel and abroad. I am hopeful that cooperation between the governments of Turkey and Israel will yield additional projects for the benefit of Turkey's citizens and farmers."

TAHAL's activities concord with the international operations and business strategy of the Kardan Group, and are aided by the working contacts that the Kardan Group has developed with international financing agencies who are leaders in their field.

TAHAL Consulting Engineers Ltd. specializes in the promotion, design, management and construction of large-scale projects in the field of infrastructure in Israel and abroad. The company is actively engaged in projects in Central and East Europe, as well as in Central and South America, Africa and Asia – undertakings that are sponsored by international financing institutions such as the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the World Bank (IDA and IBRD), or backed by financial packages put together by government and commercial funding agencies or commercial banks.

TAHAL is fully owned by the Kardan Group. The company's employs a staff of about 300 in Israel, of whom about 250 are engineers and academics in other disciplines, and engages additional employees in its subsidiaries abroad.
