Quarter 4 2021 is starting and this is the last quarter before the second vanadium factory will become fully operational, doubling vanadium production capacity.

Will we also hear more about the first lithium hydroxide plant in the EU being build by AMG? Will there be support from automakers or the EU now that the first Mercedes solid-state busses are being sold?

Solid-state is going big and AMG is positioning itself in the heart of Europe.

AMG Lithium GmbH, a subsidiary of the Dutch Advanced Metallurgical Group (AMG), has acquired a plot of land in the Bitterfeld-Wolfen Chemical Park. A lithium hydroxide plant is to be built there by 2023, not far from the planned battery plant of Daimler partner Farasis.

After the Advanced Metallurgical Group, based in the Netherlands, announced the construction of a refinery for lithium hydroxide in Saxony in Autumn 2019, its subsidiary AMG Lithium has now concluded a purchase agreement with Chemiepark Bitterfeld-Wolfen GmbH for a plot of land on the site of Chemiepark Bitterfeld-Wolfen.

AMG Lithium will build a production plant for battery-grade lithium hydroxide on this plot. The aim is to supply the European battery industry with this key raw material reliably and with short delivery routes. Initially, a plant with an annual capacity of 20,000 tonnes will be built on the site, which is scheduled to go into operation in 2023. The size of the site is such that the annual capacity can be increased to up to 100,000 tonnes in subsequent years through the addition of further modules.

Where AMG Lithium, based in Frankfurt’s Industriepark Höchst, plans to source the raw materials is not clear from the land purchase announcement. Lithium hydroxide is used in the field of electromobility for the production of cathode materials. For the “battery quality”, only very few impurities may be contained, as AMG Lithium emphasises. The plant in Bitterfeld-Wolfen is also to be the first lithium refinery in Germany.

“By locating AMG, we will further expand our position in the energy materials sector,” says Patrice Heine, managing director of Chemiepark Bitterfeld-Wolfen GmbH. “We are currently feeling a lot of momentum in the segment, be it new battery materials or porous materials for capacitors, for example.” In the medium term, he said, the aim is to bring the entire value chain for battery materials to the site, including a recycling project for a sustainable circular economy.

The lithium hydroxide from the AMG plant could be further processed directly at the chemical park in the future. In May 2019, the Daimler partner Farasis Energy from China announced that it would build a battery factory there. The plant, which according to information at the time is to go into operation at the end of 2022, is to manufacture not only cells but also modules and packs – initially with a capacity of 6 GWh, later with 10 GWh per year. In mid-February 2021, however, it became known that no building permit had yet been granted.

Lekker! Ik een beetje boven de 27 gekocht.

it's now waiting for a few more months for AMG Advanced Metallurgical Group N.V. (ticker AMG at the Dutch stock exchange) to add the Brazilian Spodumene, as well as the American Ohio 2 FerroVanadium to the yearly revenue. Ohio 2 will literary double the capacity.

So far the facts. Shareholders are awaiting an IPO of the company's Lithium activities. On August 23 the company did not want to give concrete information. They will come out and tell when the moment is there. Not earlier. Well, that ads some fantasy to the facts of the company's growth path.

EV batteries: major players and their expansion plans
Global sales of EVs are forecast to grow more than 12-fold to 31.1 million by 2030

SEOUL -- The global auto industry's shift to electric vehicles has spurred an expansion race among battery makers and caused a growing skills shortage.

Global sales of EVs, estimated at 2.5 million vehicles in 2020, is forecast to grow more than 12-fold to 31.1 million by 2030 and account for nearly a third of new vehicle sales, according to consulting firm Deloitte.

Here are major players' expansion plans in key EV markets of China, the United States and Europe.

    CATL

As of end-June, the Chinese company has an annual battery production capacity of 65.45 gigawatt hours and has an additional 92.5 GWh of capacity under construction. The global industry leader by market share, its clients include Volkswagen Group, General Motors, BMW, and Daimler as well as Chinese automakers.

The company announced a plan in August to set up a production base in Shanghai, a move that will put it close to Tesla's Chinese production base.

    LG Energy Solution

The South Korean leader expects its production capacity to reach 155 GWh by the end of this year and plans to raise that to 430 GWh by 2025 - which could power about 7.2 million EVs.

It plans to invest more than $4.5 billion in its U.S. battery production business through 2025. The plans include two new plants, jointly built with GM in Ohio and Tennessee, which would allow LGES to manufacture a total of 70 GWh of batteries in the U.S. by 2024.

LGES already has a factory in Michigan with an annual production capacity of 5 GWh.

In China, where the company makes cylindrical battery cells for Tesla, it has invested about 5.7 trillion won ($4.8 billion) and plans to invest another 1.5 trillion won.

It has invested about 6.8 trillion won in Poland since 2016 to secure an annual production capacity of 70 GWh and plans to make another 2.5 trillion won investment.

In July, LGES and Hyundai Motor Group said they would invest $1.1 billion to jointly set up an EV battery cell plant in Indonesia.

    Panasonic

The Japanese company manufactures cylindrical NCA (Nickel-Cobalt-Aluminum) batteries in the U.S. at a plant in Nevada and in facilities in Japan. Nearly all go to Tesla.

It does not disclose its manufacturing capacity, but in May said it was aiming to expand the 35 GWh Nevada facility because of increased demand from Tesla. The Nevada plant, built for $1.6 billion, was opened in 2014.

Panasonic plans to begin a test line in Japan this year to make a new cylindrical battery designed by Tesla to halve battery costs. It also has a joint venture with Toyota Motor established in February, Prime Planet Energy & Solutions, to develop prismatic batteries.

The company has said it is considering building an auto battery plant in Norway to expand into Europe but has yet to give details.

    SK Innovation

SK Innovation has a combined global annual production capacity of 40 GWh - 27 GWh in China, 7.5 GWh in Hungary and the rest from South Korea.

It plans to boost that more than five-fold to 220 GWh by 2025, with the expansion primarily focused on the U.S. market.

SK is building two EV battery plants in Georgia with a combined annual production capacity of 21.5 GWh that will begin production in early 2022.

With partner Ford, it has a 10.2 trillion won investment plan to build three separate battery plants in the U.S. with a combined annual capacity of 129 GWh of batteries, enough to power about 2.2 million EVs.

SK said it has an industry-leading order backlog of 1,600 gigawatt hours, enough for 27 million vehicles.

    Samsung SDI

The affiliate of Samsung Electronics has EV battery cell plants in Hungary, China and South Korea.

It does not disclose breakdowns of its investments or production capacity.

In July, Reuters reported that the company, whose customers include Ford and BMW, may build a battery cell plant in the U.S. Samsung SDI has been in talks to supply batteries manufactured at a potential U.S. factory with EV makers including Stellantis and Rivian, which is backed by Amazon and Ford.

heb het gezien…. Droevig voor de lokale bewoners, maar dat zal niet helpen. Het beleid is selfsupporting, en daarvoor gelden andere regels / restricties…..

Highly respected Management at AMG Advanced Metallurgical Group N.V.,

please change Your initial idea for an IPO of AMG's Lithium activities. Instead, consider to change the whole AMG notation from the Dutch stock exchange to .. well, let's say the German stock exchange or perhaps the American stock exchange. For it is well possible that shareholders will see a notable higher valuation there, than on the current Dutch stock exchange.

    Just consider it. Please.

    Is de daling van de FerroVanadiumprijs gestopt ? www.asianmetal.com/VanadiumPrice/Vana... ;
Zie in de bijlage de groene markering over de kolommen "Latest" en "30-day". (Latest = vrijdag 8 oktober 2021)
