(CercleFinance.com) - On Thursday AlphaValue upgraded its rating on Nokia shares from 'reduce' to 'buy', having increased its target price for them from 4.7 euros to 5.7 euros, welcoming the 'complete turnaround' made by the telecoms equipment manufacturer.

The broker - which highlights a 'perfectly executed' strategy by the Finnish group - considers that its outlook to 2023 appears somewhat 'cautious' given the good results recently published.

Analysts point out that the group has not updated its forecasts since March and that they are limited - for the time being - to targeting just a 0.5% improvement in its operating margin of between 2021 and 2023.

AlphaValue explains this caution by the loss of the Verizon contract and its expected impact on margins over the coming years.

Despite this, if supply constraints were to ease and growth were to continue, thanks to new customers and developments in the ReefShark chip, analysts believe there could be upside potential, they conclude.

PORTUGAL SIGNS CONCESSION FOR GOOGLE'S SUBMARINE CABLE, BUILT BY NOKIA'S ASN. Portugal’s Directorate-General for Natural Resources, Security and Maritime Services (DGRM) has signed a concession with Google for the installation of the Equiano submarine cable. The concession will be valid for 25 years, with the 15,000km submarine cable scheduled to start operations in 2022. As currently planned, the Equiano system will link Lisbon (Portugal) to Cape Town in South Africa, with additional branches to Accra (Ghana), Lagos (Nigeria), Swakopmund (Namibia) and Saint Helena (Rupert’s Bay). The new system, to be laid by Alcatel Submarine Networks (ASN), will be Google’s fourth private cable. www.commsupdate.com/articles/2021/10/...

     reliable alternative to network operators.

Orange and Nokia have signed an agreement to increase the use of refurbished equipment in telecoms infrastructure.

Refurbished network equipment will be offered by Nokia to all Orange subsidiaries via BuyIn, the procurement alliance of Orange and Deutsche Telekom.

On the Orange side, the agreement is part of a larger programme called OSCAR which will contribute to the achievement of the Net Zero Carbon objective in 2040 set by the group. It aims to put the circular economy at the heart of infrastructure networks by reusing existing equipment wherever possible. OSCAR sets clear targets for the reuse of components and the limited use of new materials.

Meanwhile, Nokia has also set ambitious targets as previously announced, aiming to cut emissions across its value chain by 50% between 2019 and 2030 as part of its renewed science-based targets.

Commenting on the agreement, Ramon Fernandez, Orange’s delegate CEO, executive director finance, performance and development, said: “We are proud to share our common vision of the circular economy with Nokia, a vision where environmental exemplarity supports sustainable value creation. This mutual understanding leads today to this first major contractual step forward for the Orange Group and its subsidiaries, with a positive environmental impact for our two groups”.

Tommi Uitto, president of mobile networks at Nokia, added: “Committing to circularity takes us another step closer to achieving our own climate goals, as well as supporting our customers in achieving theirs. Digitalization reduces waste, reuse extends product life, and through this we are able to realise the full value of our products. This framework agreement demonstrates the importance of collaboration in resolving the big challenges society faces and we all need to act together”.

14/10/2021 Espoo, Finland – Nokia today announced that it has been selected by Japanese mobile operators, SoftBank Corp. (SoftBank) and KDDI as one of the vendors to deploy Japan’s shared RAN. This deployment will deliver 5G services to both SoftBank and KDDI subscribers in the country. Nokia will install a Multi-Operator Radio Access Network (MORAN), which will allow both companies to share the RAN while keeping core networks separate. Network sharing helps support efficient RAN deployments as base station sites and infrastructure (equipment) are shared.

Under the deal, Nokia will supply its latest AirScale products including baseband and radio platforms. Nokia’s MORAN is triple mode and covers LTE, 5G as well as Dynamic Spectrum Sharing. In particular, Nokia will provide its new generation of ReefShark System-on-Chip based plug-in cards to increase the capacity of the AirScale baseband. The new ReefShark-powered plug-in cards are easily installed and simplify the upgrade and extended operation of all AirScale deployments. They also deliver up to eight times more throughput compared to previous generations. Nokia’s modular AirScale baseband will enable SoftBank and KDDI to scale capacity flexibly and efficiently and as their 5G business evolves.
