    ENVIRONMENTAL AND SOCIAL RISK ASSOCIATED WITH TRADITIONAL PROCESS TO MAKE FUMED SILICA
    As Figure 2 demonstrates, conventional processes to manufacture fumed silica is a complex multi-step process that requires significant energy consumption (110,000 kWh to produce one Metric Tonne (MT) of Fumed Silica), involves many hazardous products and generates extreme by-products in the form of Hydrogen Chloride Gas (HCI), a highly regulated gas with stringent environmental constraints associated with its use. Traditional processes to make fumed silica are highly capital intensive, as the Silicon Tetrachloride feedstock necessary to the fumed silica manufacturing process can only be made by a Polysilicon plant, requiring > US$ 1.2 billion investment for 10,000 Metric Tonne per Year (MTA) capacity1 to which you must add the > US$ 150 million cost to build a production line capable of producing 13,000 MTA2 of fumed silica.

    THE MARKET: FUMED SILICA ADDRESSABLE MARKET TO REACH US$ 2.2 BILLION BY 20223
    Fumed silica (Pyrogenic Silica) is a white microscopic powder with high surface area and low bulk density. Its commercial applications encompass various industries including personal care, pharmaceuticals, agriculture (food & feed), adhesives, sealants, construction, batteries and automotive to name a few. Demand for Fumed Silica is growing at 6% CAGR, with a global addressable market of US$ 1.5 billion in 2016 expected to grow to US$ 2.2 billion in 2022, but present manufacturing processes are hindering its growth potential.

    Fully 3D Printed Stainless Steel Tower Tresse in South of France

    Working with artist Riccardo Ragazzoni, MX3D began working on the Tresse project in 2020. This fully 3D printed stainless steel sculpture has now been placed in a private garden in the South of France. In his search for a manufacturing partner, Ragazzoni went to Italy and approached several companies that were using traditional techniques, such as bronze casting or cut metal. However, these techniques did not fit with the artist’s vision as he searched for new innovative ways to produce his 4-meter tall steel sculpture. The final Tresse project has been fully 3D printed in stainless steel while the tips were polished and gold-plated in post-production.

    With over 10.000 kg of metal 3D printed objects since 2014, MX3D brought large-scale robotic wire arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) and its market to life, enabling metal 3D printing to be more flexible, faster, and affordable. Now, the Dutch company is ready to transform the market further by launching the first dedicated robotic WAAM software enabling companies, engineers, and designers to print end-to-end large-scale 3D metal objects in-house.Tresse project

    3D Printed Bollards under Installation in Rotterdam Harbour

    The Port of Rotterdam Authority is installing the world’s first 3D-printed steel bollards on the new quay in the Sleepboothaven at Rotterdam Heijplaat. The six bollards are part of a series of twelve 3D-printed bollards that the Port Authority and RAMLAB have co-developed. The 3D printing of bollards is part of the infrastructure innovation programme launched by the Port Authority to improve and increase sustainability in the manufacture and use of quayside hardware through scientific research, innovation and digitisation.

    Traditionally, our bollards were always made from cast steel to a set design. By applying 3D printing technology, bollards can not only be made faster, but they can also be made closer to the location where they are to be installed, which helps make production more sustainable. The results of external testing show that the new bollards are of at least the same quality as cast steel ones. Eventually, the original shape of the bollards will be redesigned to ensure that in future they will be stronger and more durable.

    The eleven 3D-printed bollards are to be installed on the new quay in the Sleepboothaven and will be used to moor vessels for Broekman Project Services.

    RDM Rotterdam at Heijplaat, where Sleepboothaven is also located, is an incubator for the innovative manufacturing industry, where students, the business community and science work together to build the port of tomorrow. The Sleepboothaven was in need of renovation. As part of its refurbishment, various innovative, sustainable building concepts are being applied. For example, the quay wall was finished using precast concrete barrier elements that were installed without the need for a cofferdam. This reduced the construction time, which meant less inconvenience for the neighbourhood’s businesses. The Port of Rotterdam Authority and RAMLAB developed the bollards together. They are being printed at RAMLAB on the RDM site. The technique used is called Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM) and involves the robotic welding of layers deposited on top of each other to form a 3D shape.

    'ArcelorMittal neemt pioniersrol op in CO2-reductie'
    De uitstoot van broeikasgassen is het topic du jour. De Europese Commissie legt vandaag immers het meest omvangrijke wetgevende pakket ooit op tafel met meer dan een dozijn nieuwe regels en taksen om de CO2-uitstoot met 55 procent te verminderen tegen 2030.

    Op bedrijfsniveau wordt intussen ook naarstig doorgewerkt aan vergroening. ArcelorMittal MT2,02% kondigde gisteren het voornemen aan om 's werelds eerste CO2-neutrale staalfabriek te runnen in het Spaanse Gijón. Die fabriek zal jaarlijkst 1,6 miljoen ton staal produceren vanaf 2025. De CO2-neutraliteit zal bereikt worden via de recyclage van schrootmaterialen en het gebruik van direct-gereduceerd ijzer op basis van waterstof. Ook zullen alle hoogovens, walsen en afwerkingsmachines met groene stroom worden aangedreven.

    'Die inspanningen zullen zowat 400 tot 500 euro per geproduceerd ton staan kosten', zegt analist Stijn Demeester van ING in zijn ochtendrapport. 'Dit is beduidend minder dat de eerste ramingen van 1.000 euro per ton en het resultaat van kostenbesparingen en overheidssteun'.

    'We beschouwen deze aankondiging dan ook als positief omdat ze de pioniersrol van ArcelorMittal in de vergroening van staalproductie onderlijnt', besluit de analist die een koopadvies met koersdoel van 35 euro hanteert. ArcelorMittal wint 2 procent naar 26,25 euro.

    Een beetje goochelen met cijfer, dus eerst maar eens kijken of ik het een beetje snap.

    6,200,000 / (167,761,705 -/- 765,000) = 3,71% (16/07/2021)
    6,525,000 / (167,761,705 -/- 765,000) = 3,91% (16/07/2022)
    6,850,000 / (167,761,705 -/- 765,000) = 4,10% (16/07/2023)

    Als alles doorgaat, betekent dit voor nu een verwatering van 3,71%...

    Momenteel heeft de heer Pascali 48,44% van de aandelen en dat wordt 50,18%.

    Tot 2023 kan zijn belang verder oplopen tot 50,46%, maar in de tussentijd kan er natuurlijk nog van alles gebeuren.
