    Zo te zien ben ik gelukkig niet de enige die nog hoop heeft :)

    Large U.S. employers reduced their planned layoffs in the first half of 2010 to the slowest pace in a decade, according to a count released Thursday by outplacement firm Challenger Gray & Christmas.
    In June, planned job reductions were essentially unchanged from May at 39,358, which was 47% less than in June 2009. It was the third straight month in which there were fewer than 40,000 layoffs announced.
    For the second quarter of the year, job-reduction announcements were down 63% to 116,494, the fewest since the second quarter of 2000. And for the first six months of the year, job-reduction announcements were down 67% to 297,677, the fewest since the first half of 2000.
    "While some may question the sustainability of this recovery, the dramatic decline in planned layoffs over the past six months certainly suggests that the nation's employers are not anticipating a double-dip recession," said John Challenger, chief executive officer of Challenger, Gray & Christmas.
    "With the exception of organizations in the government and non-profit sector, employers are looking six months ahead and apparently do not see a reason to make additional reductions in payrolls," he said.
    The government and non-profit sector has announced more reductions - 98,776 - than any other, with pharmaceuticals a distant second at 34,987 and retail in third at 26,181. During June, the computer industry was the chief ax-wielder, cutting 9,085, followed by government with 4,306, and retail with 4,306, Challenger Gray's data showed.
    The firm's monthly tally covers only a small fraction of those who lose their jobs each month. Most layoffs are not announced in press releases.
    According to the government's most recent report on job turnover, for instance, 1.7 million people lost their jobs by layoff or termination in April, the fewest in more than three years.
    In all of 2009, the government counted 27.7 million layoffs. By contrast, Challenger counted 1.3 million layoffs that were announced by companies in 2009.

    Over de eerste zes maanden van dit jaar maakten werkgevers in de VS het ontslag bekend van 297.677 werknemers. Dat is 67 procent minder dan in dezelfde periode vorig jaar en het laagste aantal in een halfjaar sinds 2000.

    Volgens Challenger, Gray & Christmas geeft het sterk gedaalde aantal aangekondigde ontslagen over de eerste zes maanden van 2010 aan dat werkgevers in de VS geen nieuwe recessie verwachten.

    ja ben blij maar bepaalde partijen proberen de zaak nog te redden :-)

    Kijk en daar ben ik wel weer blij om :). Ben alleen niet erg overtuigd van het fanatisme bij die partijen.

    Paulus en anderen. Gaat het echt zo slecht? In de vroeg-cyclische sectoren is de vraag enorm toegenomen; de Duitse machine-orders zijn met 60% toegenomen (y/y), na vorig jaar gekelderd te zijn, maar minder dan de toename nu.

    Dan heb je staatsschulden. Wat is er eigenlijk op tegen als (op een eerlijke manier) de ECB die monetair gedeeltelijk wegtovert door geldschepping? Bang voor inflatie? Terwijl de analisten bang zijn voor deflatie.
    De Fed doet dat ook. De 200 miljard steun aan AIG is door de Fed opgehoest. Ook Fanny Mae en Freddy Mac zijn door de Fed geholpen en niet via TARP. Die TARP-centen kwamen wel uit de VS-begroting.

    Als een idioot gaan bezuinigen gaat koopkracht kosten en de consumptie gaat dalen. Dat brengt bedrijven vanzelf in moeilijkheden ja.

    Alleen met het inhuren van nieuw personeel wil het niet. Werkgevers wachten.
