   Zeer hoge afboeking drukt Crucell fors in het rood
   
   Het lijkt erop dat Crucell er geen twijfel over wil laten ontstaan dat het bod van Johnson & Johnson toereikend is. Door in één keer een tegenvaller af te schrijven zal Crucell dit jaar diep rode cijfers schrijven.
   De grote winstmaker van Crucell, vaccincocktail Quinvaxem, blijkt ineens een stevige verliespost op te leveren.
   
   Crucell schrijft bij de publicatie van het derdekwartaalrapport 22,8 miljoen euro af op de hele voorraad Quinvaxem. Het zorgt voor een operationeel verlies van 31 miljoen en een nettoverlies van 27 miljoen euro geleden.
   
   Eind vorige maand moest Crucell bekendmaken dat het de productie van Quinvaxem, een cocktail van vijf vaccins tegen een aantal kinderziekten, bij haar fabriek in Zuid-Korea heeft moeten stilleggen vanwege besmettingsproblemen.
   
   Hierop werd de gehele afgegeven verwachting voor dit jaar ingetrokken.
   
   Crucell kampte ook nog met een vertraagde start van het griepseizoen, wat tot lagere verkopen van griepvaccins leidde. Hierdoor liep de omzet terug van 94,3 miljoen tot 89,5 miljoen euro.
   
   Druk omhoog
   De slechte cijfers van Crucell komen op een pregnant moment. Sinds het bod van Johnson & Jonhson (J&J) van 24,75 euro per aandeel, is de druk op het bestuur van het Leidse biotechbedrijf aardig opgevoerd.
   
   Het bestuur steunt het bod, maar enkele aandeelhouders vinden de prijs te laag. Het bod zou het niet stroken met de eerder geuite optimistische geluiden van het bestuur over de toekomst.
   
   Meer dan de mededeling dat de voortgang van het bod voorspoedig gaat laat Crucell zich niet ontvallen. Waarschijnlijk volgt nog deze maand de officiële bieding. Op 10 december staat een aandeelhoudersvergadering gepland. Daar gaat Crucell meer tekst en uitleg geven.
   
   Verwachtingen drukken
   Intussen lijkt het bestuur de toekomstverwachtingen telkens te willen drukken. Dat was al zo bij de halfjaarcijfers, nog voor de belangstelling van J&J officieel kenbaar werd gemaakt.
   
   Crucell ging bij de halfjaarcijfers niet verder dan de verwachting het operationele inkomen van 39 miljoen behaald over 2009 te zullen overtreffen. En dat bij een operationeel inkomen van 13,1 miljoen, tegen 3,2 miljoen euro jaar ervoor.
   Crucell verwacht nu dat over 2010 de totale inkomsten rond het niveau van 2009 zullen uitkomen. Toen werd 358 miljoen euro omgezet.
   
   Door de eenmalige afschrijving op Quinvaxem wordt over geheel 2010 een operationeel verlies van 20-25 miljoen euro verwacht. Crucell denkt de verscheping van Quinvaxem de komende weken weer te kunnen hervatten.
   
   Goede deal
   Crucell en J&J zou het niet ongelegen komen indien de kritiek op het bod verstomt. Signalen dat J&J zich door de problemen zou terugtrekken of met een lagere prijs op de proppen zou komen zijn er niet.
   
   Geheel uit te sluiten was dat niet omdat Crucell toch gezichtsverlies geleden heeft en de nodige inkomsten is misgelopen.
   
   De overname zal voor de Amerikanen waarschijnlijk te lucratief zijn. Crucell gaat immers het hart van de vaccintak van J&J vormen. Dat J&J niets doet vormt feitelijk de beste illustratie dat zij een goede deal hebben gesloten.

   Crucell heeft volgend jaar pas belastingvrijstelling in Korea.
   Nu nemen zij een verlies dat gecompenseerd kan worden met de winsten van afgelopen jaren en volgendjaar valt een groot gedeelte van de voorziening weer vrij en dat alles belastingvrij. Zo dom zijn ze nog niet ons MT.

Beide situaties lijken me zeer laakbaar. Ook het in het duister laten van de aandeelhouders over dit soort zaken is misschien nog wel laakbaarder ...
   
   Ik heb momenteel echt alle maar dan ook alle vertrouwen in het MT verloren en zie totaal geen heil meer in een bedrijf als Crucell met dit management aan het roer ... Zodra ik het rest van mijn geld uit deze belegging kan halen, zal ik dat doen. Ik heb er ook veel aan verdiend, dus het is geen klacht vanuit een verliezende positie maar een puur morele afweging ... Tegen dit soort spelletjes kan ik gewoon niet op, ook al heb ik een sterk vermoeden dat men de onzekerheid m.b.t. besmetting tot voorbij 9 december zal laten voortbestaan (er zijn teveel belangen bij betrokken), maar weet niet hoe hier van te profiteren of extra verlies te voorkomen door me voor dit soort laakbaar gedrag van het management af te schermen ...

   a non-exclusive Vendor Network Agreement, whereby Eden has become a
   pre-approved authorized provider of services for contract manufacturing
