(ABM FN-Dow Jones) De Europese Commissie onderzoekt in de mobiele telefoniesector de groothandelsprijzen voor roaming en voor mobiele afgifte. Dit maakte de Nederlandse Autoriteit Consument & Markt woensdag bekend.

Bij mobiele afgifte gaat het om de tarieven die telefonieaanbieders elkaar in rekening mogen brengen voor het doorverbinden naar elkaars gebruikers.

Het doel van het onderzoek is meer inzicht te krijgen in de kosten van mobiele diensten in EU/EER-landen.

De resultaten van het onderzoek worden gebruikt bij het bepalen van een maximum voor groothandelsprijzen voor roaming en voor het vaststellen van een Europees maximumtarief voor mobiele afgifte.

De Commissie heeft AXON opdracht gegeven om het onderzoek uit te voeren en een kostenmodel te bouwen. Op basis van data die in mei 2018 zijn uitgevraagd bij stakeholders is een concept kostenmodel gebouwd. Mobiele netwerkaanbieders hebben al hun eerste reactie kunnen geven.

TMT Finance has learned that Dutch incumbent telecom operator KPN has hired a bank to run the sale of six datacentre sites and two leasing facilities. Sources said that Oakley Advisory is advising KPN on the sale. It is not clear what the assets are valued at, although sources reckon it will be in the ‘hundreds of millions’ (euros) range.

KPN has a total of three datacentres in the Amsterdam metropolitan area, which, according to sources, should attract the most interest, as well as others in Groningen, Eindhoven and Rotterdam. From the Amsterdam metropolitan area and the regional hotspots of Groningen, Rotterdam and Eindhoven, the company offers both carrier- and cloud-neutral flexible datacentre and colocation services, with a total floor area of 28,000 m2 and 22.5 MW of installed capacity.

The company has also recently unveiled a new cost-cutting strategic plan to 5G-ready its network infrastructure and expand its FTTH footprint, aiming to cut opex by E350m. The Dutch company will also target increasing its number of converged households by 300,000 and converged contract base to 70% by 2021, and has set the ceiling for its capital expenditure at E1.1bn.

Over the past 12 months, a number of management changes have been made at KPN, including the appointment of a new CEO, Maximo Ibarra; plus other changes: Jean-Pascal Van Overbeke as CCO, Hilde Garssen as chief people officer, chief strategy officer Wouter Stammeijer, chief transformation officer Paolo Nanni, general counsel and company secretary Jasper Spanbroek and chief corporate communication and CSR Hans Koeleman. New CEO Ibarra most recently served as CEO of Wind Tre and replaced Eelco Blok, who left to join investment company Reggeborgh in April.
