    ArcelorMittal’s Distributions Solutions France has confirmed the permanent closure of two of its distribution hubs in eastern France, located in Strasbourg and Valence. The decision, stemming from the ongoing crisis in the steel industry, highlights the steelmaker’s efforts to adapt to the challenging economic environment. ArcelorMittal has informed both its employees and labor unions about its plans for restructuring and reorganizing operations to address the decline in demand, particularly within the building, mechanical engineering, and general industry sectors.

    The company’s internal memo attributes the closures to a “significant and lasting drop in volumes,” which have declined by approximately 19% between 2019 and 2024. This downturn has directly impacted the company's sales and, consequently, its operations in the local distribution sector. As a result, ArcelorMittal has decided to consolidate its activities by transferring the functions from the Strasbourg and Valence sites to neighboring distribution hubs. This shift is expected to lead to the reduction of up to 28 jobs, although 15 new positions may be created in the process at other sites. The company is continuing consultations with employee representatives to ensure transparency and support for the affected workers.

    This move is part of ArcelorMittal's broader effort to adjust to market realities. In November 2024, the company also announced the closure of its Reims and Denain flat products service centers in northern France. These closures will result in the layoff of 135 workers—113 in Reims, 21 in Denain, and one in Ottmarsheim. However, the company has noted that 19 new jobs will be created at other locations within the company, as operations are shifted to maintain overall activity.

    In a significant protest, hundreds of villagers from Handia in Nuagarh panchayat stopped the construction of a boundary wall at the ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel plant, accusing both the administration and the company of failing to fulfill their long-standing demands for employment and rehabilitation. The protesters, including women and children, staged a dharna, sit-in, on Tuesday, calling attention to the unkept promises made to them more than a decade ago.

    The roots of this conflict date back to 2008 when Essar Steel acquired 394 acres of land in Handia village, located in Kujang tehsil, as part of an expansion plan for its pellet plant. As part of the acquisition process, around 80 families were given displacement notices. The villagers allege that they were promised compensation in the form of employment, one job for each displaced family member, and adequate rehabilitation. Initially, the administration proposed land for their relocation in Narendrapur under the Biswali panchayat, but the villagers demanded that they be relocated within the Nuagarh panchayat, closer to their homes.

    Nu short gaan door handelaren is wel gunstig voor het inkoopprogramma. De prijs waartegen het inkoopprogramma aandelen mag inkopen is begrensd. Het komt er in feite op neer dat het inkoopprogramma niet koers niet mag opdrijven. Dus als er shorters aan het werk zijn is dat wel gunstig.

    Uit het jaarverslag:
    "The purchase price per share to be paid shall not exceed 110% of the average of the final listing
    prices of the 30 trading days preceding the three trading days prior to each date of repurchase, ......"

    Mondiale staalproductie weer licht gestegen

    Met bijna een procent in november.

    (ABM FN-Dow Jones) De mondiale staalproductie is in november opnieuw licht gestegen. Dit bleek maandag uit cijfers van brancheorganisatie World Steel Association.

    In totaal produceerden de 71 staalproducerende landen vorige maand 146,8 miljoen ton staal, wat 0,8 procent meer was dan een jaar geleden. In oktober steeg de productie met 0,4 procent op jaarbasis, na een daling in september.

    In China, wereldwijd met afstand de grootste fabrikant van staal, steeg de productie in november met 2,5 procent naar 78,4 miljoen ton staal.

    In Duitsland steeg de productie met 8,6 procent op jaarbasis.

    In de Europese Unie was er productiestijging van 3,9 procent op jaarbasis, maar in de VS daalde de productie met 2,8 procent. In Japan was er een krimp van 3,1 procent.

    Wall Street sluit om 19.00 uur Nederlandse tijd de deuren en woensdag op Eerste Kerstdag blijft de beursvloer in New York helemaal leeg. Donderdag, Tweede Kerstdag, buiken Europese beleggers nog uit, maar wordt er in de VS wel normaal gehandeld, hoewel vermoedelijk met zeer lage volumes."
