    Juniper Networks boekte een 16% lagere omzet
    Het bedrijf boekte een 16% lagere omzet als gevolg van de trage vraag naar hun producten in een onzekere economie. Juniper publiceerde een winst van 29 cent per aandeel, vergeleken met de ramingen van analisten van 40 cent per aandeel.

    Commentaar Marc Langeveld:
    "Er was in 2024 Q1 bij JNPR sprake van Macro + Inventory Digestion, waar Arista ook last van zou kunnen hebben. Maar JNPR wordt ook afgeleid door hun acquisitie van HPE. Kan het voor ANET Q1 24 helaas niet helemaal uitsluiten, maar de capex trend voor 2025-2027 cloud infra ziet er voor ANET solide uit."

    Upgraded to buy
    The person behind the Arista upgrade was Jefferies' George Notter, who now rates the stock a buy at a price target of $320 per share. Previously, he tagged it as a hold at a much lower price point ($240).
    The reasoning behind this is straightforward, clear, and entirely realistic. In his latest research note on the networking company, Notter said that spending on cloud computing is "extraordinary right now," a trend that plays very nicely into Arista's core competencies.
    That ramp-up in spending is due in no small measure to the skyrocketing popularity of artificial intelligence (AI). Many companies in a variety of economic sectors are intrigued by the many possibilities of AI and are gearing up to leverage the technology in their businesses. Due to its advanced nature, AI requires more powerful processing and greater storage requirements, hence the potentially lucrative opportunities for companies like Arista.

    Double-digit growth expected for the first quarter
    We should get a clearer picture of how the trend is affecting Arista next week; the company is scheduled to publish its latest set of earnings on Tuesday, May 7. On average, it is expecting a beefy 22% year-over-year rise in per-share net income (to $1.74), on the back of a 19% increase in revenue to $1.55 billion.

    - GAAP net income of $637.7 million, or $1.99 per diluted share, compared to GAAP net income of $436.5 million, or $1.38 per diluted share in the first quarter of 2023.
    - Non-GAAP net income of $637.7 million, or $1.99 per diluted share, compared to non-GAAP net income of $452.5 million, or $1.43 per diluted share in the first quarter of 2023.

    “Arista is off to a strong start to 2024 with solid first quarter results,” said Jayshree Ullal, Chairperson and CEO of Arista Networks. “As we get ready to celebrate the 10th anniversary of our IPO in June, I am pleased with our progress in the Arista 2.0 journey as seen in breakthrough innovations, customer traction and building our next generation leaders."

    Commenting on the company's financial results, Chantelle Breithaupt, Arista’s CFO said, "We are pleased with our performance this quarter, which exceeded expectations across key financial metrics. Our commitment remains to deliver long-term value to our shareholders through sustained financial performance and strategic investments."
